Speaking of roses... I'll see your 8 and raise you 17.

Alright, alright, alright.... I hear ya. I just call out the media turds. They hate USC and it shows. They don't even bother hiding it, and it's such a normal thing nobody thinks anything of it. Winning all the games so far... AND dropping 5 spots. More than a little suspect, and I would say that about ANY program facing the same situation.

:coffee:

I do wish USC would get it's baseball program squared away again. Have not won a title since 1998 (their 12th after a 20 year dry spell). I remember that year vividly. I was working for Mori Seiki at the time, and as it happened, I was in Nebraska working on a pallet pool system dead in the middle of nowhere (Hastings, Nebraska). The ONLY thing there was to do there was work, golf, drink, drive go-karts and watch the College World Series... pretty much in that order, though we would sometimes or usually drink AND golf.

Really? Wow. Sad. That just isn't right.

Jeff

I think Oregon State is that other team.

Bad hires have consequences. REALLY bad consequences. Even CATASTROPHIC consequences sometimes.

Larry Scott dug the grave. His replacement kicked the teams in and threw dirt on 'em. The full story is pretty well documented.

The new turd had a reasonable chance to save the conference. ALL he had to do was accept ESPN's reasonable broadcast rights offer ($30m/school/year guaranteed). He advised the schools to reject the offer and counter with $50m/school/year. Of course, ESPN to 'em pound sand and immediately signed other schools for the $30m, effectively ending the deal. The new turd dug up some Apple Play deal that was contingent upon subscriptions.

In the world of College Athletics and The Olympics, it's downright tragic IMHO. So,  the Big 10 and the Big 12 will be the beneficiaries of the next olympians from Oregoon, fUCLA, USC, and Washington, and the Big 12 will get the Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah. I think the Big 10 will have more olympians but, still a massive drain from the west.

Not being well versed in the ACC's situation, but at least from a distance it appears as though they are headed down the same path, though it seems for different reasons.

Meanwhile The B1G has a stupid Peacock streaming deal for some games. It's fucking stupid.
If the B1G could guarantee that the worst commentator on the planet (Gus Johnson) would never do another Michigan game again I'd sub to Peacock in a heartbeat.

^ Good post. Thanks. That really sucks. PAC 12 no longer a Power 5 conf. Big 10 will get stronger with USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington. A LOT stronger.

But I'm not happy about it. Its just wrong.

Just being a College Football fan (favorite team aside), this is REALLY going to screw up the playoff situation. I mean, the "playoffs" were a cluster fuck from the get go. Have to win this, have to win that, and can't have more than X representatives from the same conference... blah, blah, blah, blah, fuckin' blah. I get The Rose, Cotton, Orange, and Sugar Bowls have history, and that's important and should be respected as much as possible when possible, but what it is now is almost worse than before.

2024 is gonna be a shitshow especially since for all intents and purposes there's really only going to be 3 over-healthy conferences Big 10, Big 12, and SEC. 2 or 3 mediocre at best conferences that will have no chance at beating any of the top 4 teams out of the 3 major conferences, and the rest are the weaklings. What a dumpster fire.

There has been rumors that Oregon State and Washington State are in discussions with the Big Ten conference.

I hope not.

The B1G was also tossing around the idea of doing away with divisions.
Fuck that. A few years ago when the Big Ten didn't have divisions they always got fucked over every year being idle while the other conferences played their championship games.

With 18 and possibly 20 teams soon, I can't see them dropping the divisions. That would be a terrible idea, agreed.

They'd probably add 2 more for 4 divisions if that were practical, which it is not. One extra game in the conf. championships not doable.

Somewhere in that discussion, I remember seeing something that they were talking about getting rid of the Michigan/OSU game and trophy games. I can't remember specifics, but that would be an all-time stupid decision.
We just played for the Little Brown Jug, something that Minnesota and Michigan has been doing since like 1905.
Hopefully they ditched that idea.

Next year (I think) the Big Ten will have 18 teams. Two nine team divisions plus the three non-conference games each will virtually make two separate conferences so there is either going to be very little cross division games or the guaranteed division games such as OSU vs MICH will have to heavily diminished. The Big Ten has earlier stated that those type games aren't going away so we will have to wait and see. USC, Washington and Oregon needs and deserves to play OSU, MICH and Penn State. UCLA maybe not so much but there does need to be a mix between the divisions to keep the conference Solid.
