They've rarely if ever had to rely on technicalities to bolster their numbers. Things have not been this bad since Vietnam.

To be fair, it's a competitive market for an ever dwindling number of recruits.

The Army, Navy, USAF, even the Coast Guard, were all offing HUGE cash bonuses for enlisting. Army was a max of $50K.

When someone asked the commandant of the USMC what their bonus would be he said, they get to call themselves Marines.

While that may appeal to some, cash money appeals to far more.

He started a small company making beard oils in his garage that is now doing quite well...

https://loxandcompany.com/

His name is Dave and his picture is on the home page of the website.
If any of you bearded lads would like to try his products, they are very good quality, and you would be helping a veteran-owned business.

This is my favorite...

LOL

They even have some pomades for the ladies, and other products like soaps, lip balms, and all natural deodorants, so even if you are a guy who has no beard, mustache, or even hair to speak of, they still have something you might like.

I also love just the patriotic vibe of Dave's business, and the killer artwork on their clothing lines.

Even with those significant bonuses the other branches are offering, they are still falling far shorter than the Marines. Of all the branches, the Marines STILL do better.

Until relatively recently the "Military" was able to be largely apolitical, or at the very least, with the exception of Flag Officers, operate outside the national political circus. Seems like since Obummer, that is no longer the case, and the ranks have diminished. Since The Incontinent One - Dimentia Joe came along with his idiotic COVID and woke bullshit policies, he's just destroyed everything. Until THAT bullshit changes, brace yourselves for diminished military readiness, and capability.

And for the VERY REAL possibility of the US military getting our ass handed to us by China should we stick our nose too far into their business...

Why are the marines better? Not saying you're wrong, just never heard that the marines get so many more people.

The Marines are FAR smaller than the other branches. They also have less turnover. As a result, their quota is much lower.

For 2023 the Marines number was about 30K, which they hit. The Army was over 60K, and they were about 10K short of making it.

and in a real shooting war these would be monthly quotas.

"... better..." is subjective and I don't think they are the better branch, that said, no other branch is better at at recruiting. There's just something about being a Marine that is special in a 17/18 year old's eyes that is the draw. BITD their slogan was "The Few, The Proud, The Marines." First in, Last Out. There's a lot of appeal there and The Commandant pretty much nailed it. At least from the "... they 'get' to call themselves Marines..." perspective. Every Marine is a rifleman. From the Marine that works in sanitation, up to the Commandant and everyone in between. No other branch is like that.
