In people in your situation it has been shown effective in lowering LDL. In otherwise healthy people with high LDL, not as effective.

I have very low HDL. My LDL stays around 70.

With statins? 70 without would not warrant a prescription.

It would be double without and Total would really be high. Total to good should be less than 4-1. My pre heart attack I was 8-1. Since my HDL stays in the 20's I need my total to stay low like 120.

This guy is one of my favorite youtubers. He is a PHD researcher and is very neutral, follows the data. He will agree with or disagree with people that are 180 opposed on matters of diet and health based on what he always calls "the preponderance of data". The video below is kind of long but it is with a leading lipidologist. They discuss everything about cholesterol. how you body makes it. How it goes through the various stages of your body. how dietary cholesterol is absorbed. How your gut biome effects cholesterol production, absorption, etc. How genetics factor in. How medications work.

It wasn't revoked, the hospital put in a complaint because he wasn't towing the company line on assembly-line surgeries and instead finding remedies through diet and nutrition, which is all cleared up now. So it's a feature, not a bug.
Given your interest in nutrition i'd thought you might be open to this guy.

The oreo guy or Shawn baker? Baker is a quack that lost his license. I don't know about the other guy.

The thing about the oreo guys claim is he doesn't share his diet. If he is replacing calories from meat/dairy with calories from oreos then it should obviously lower his cholesterol because oreos don't have any cholesterol.

"... fixing the underlying problem...". There's a novel concept. That takes effort, takes testing, takes time. Taking a pill takes about 5 seconds.

Not throwing shade on the guys taking medications.... it was more of an indictment against the medical establishment for making it so effortless to take the easy way out. They didn't become doctors because it was easy... they should carry the right approach through everythign they do.

My opinion is meds should be a temporary solution while the underlying causes get investigated/treated. There are situations where things are permanent for one reason or another like T1 diabetes... when your pancreas doesn't produce insulin, that's typically a chronic condition that has implications necessitating the close monitoring of blood glucose and injection of insulin when the need arises. Not everthing is that severe.

I thought he stated he was on a ketogenic diet....

Yes but he doesn't give his calorie and nutrient breakdown. Keto is high cholesterol. If he replaces high cholesterol meat calories with no cholesterol oreos calories to keep his caloric intake similar it can drastically reduce his blood cholesterol levels depending on how his body specifically processes cholesterol. That's the info he doesn't give, is he keeping calories/macros/etc the same or is he just adding in a bunch oreos on top of his normal diet.

That (6 week daily breakdown of caloric and nutritional intake) would probably not be appropriate for that venue (short YouTube clip). He was pretty up front about his research and methodology being available in his research papers. That was my take anyway.
