This week we are having a Multus U3000 installed. It is the same spec as our other U3000 so not a big difference in capability, but it has the New OSP-P500 control. I guess there is only a handful of them in the US right now. We get to be the "guinea pigs", as the saying goes. I haven't been able to poke around too much in the control but it is a bit different. I was told the design was to make a standardized control that could be used on all machines. A lot of functions that had dedicated hard keys in our other Multus machines are now software driven screens/keys. Most of display screens still looks the same though.

I've been hearing about that control for a while. I'm anxious to hear your thoughts on it, once you get into it. I was talking to some Okuma repairmen about the new control recently and they just rolled their eyes. they said the salesmen are excited about it.

I'm worried that it might remove a lot of the user-friendly-ness that the OSP300 had as far as ergonomics go.

Does that bottom part swivel? If so how much?

Hopefully it isn't as bastardized as the DMG Celos thing. That was their intention also, one control for all their machines.

It does swivel quite a bit, slides back and forth, and the bottom section can adjust to different angles.

So far with my limited exploration, it looks like they kept buttons for all important functions you would need while the program is actually in cycle. The stuff that is used in manual and changing mode type stuff is what seems to be software driven.

That is a beautiful machine!
It will be even more beautiful once it's up and running  :htu:

I do like the redesigned look over our older U3000. It looks much more modern. I have about 3 weeks to get the robot cell running. Our main lathe programmer is going to get the actual first parts running. Then I am off to FL to setup a triple turret LT3000 and robot cell.

I found a major design flaw!!!!!

The old control had a nice ledge to set my coffee cup on while proving out programs. The new control doesn't have it anymore  >:(

LOL, I use the same ledge on our U3000. Great looking machine Doug. Looks a lot nicer than the previous version.

A new TS customer of mine has just got an Okuma LB3000EXII MY with the P500 control. I've been using it a bit lately, and the machine/control is really nice!

On a side note, the TS post for that machine pretty much worked out of the box perfectly. Just had to tweak two formats.

Have you done any TS post work for a triple turret LT? We have two turret LT3000's now but our first triple is being installed this week. I am worried we are the first Okuma triple for TS and that the post dev is going to take some time.
