Nice looking machine, what kind of material you have lined up for it?

Quote from: YoDoug on March 04, 2024, 05:00 AMHave you done any TS post work for a triple turret LT? We have two turret LT3000's now but our first triple is being installed this week. I am worried we are the first Okuma triple for TS and that the post dev is going to take some time.

I've never had access to a triple turret machine. I would suspect it shouldn't be an issue, as the multi channel support is pretty good.

If anyone has a post for a triple turret Okuma, it is probably Kodomacorp in Japan. I was told they had some really dialled Okuma posts. Regardless, the post team in France should be able to handle it if it needs tweaking.

Everything we machine is 6061 or 7075 Aluminum. We have about 800 part numbers in our system and less than 50 are not aluminum, so we just outsource those so we can keep our machines tooled up for lights out aluminum machining.

Del.

Is cutting aluminum still considered machining?  😝

I miss the days of "cutting" aluminum.

I miss the days of hogging out mold cavities in H13. Those bright purple and blue chips flying across the machine. That was fun.

You wouldn't like it. Moves too fast, even in the WEDM.

All the parts we machine here are aluminum. They are pretty easy tolerances, mostly +/-.005". A few press fit bores but that is only a handful of part numbers. We machine about a million pounds of raw aluminum a year. Our biggest challenges are part finish. Being consumer product it needs to be jewelry finishes. We have to have every edge, chamfer, step, etc. clean and bling shiny. We also run long hours of unattended machining so reliable processes and chip management are also some of our more critical machining issues.

We have official Okuma training on the new control next Monday so I will hold off final judgement, but so far because of the world safety spec stuff it is rather cumbersome. A whole lot more button pushing and tricky order of buttons to do things that were simple in the P300. Hopefully the Okuma Apps guy will be able to show if we are doing things wrong or the hard way. I'm guessing that after a couple weeks running the machine these extra button clicks will be quick and unnoticed.

We have 4 Matsuura HPLUS-630's. Oldest is 2002, newest 2022.

On the old one, if you want, you could open the operator door and get sprayed with coolant and chips. The only thing opening the door changes is the rapid is limited to 25%.

To open the door on the new one, you have to have a key switched to setup, push the "open the door" button, and if it's running you have to wait for the coolant and spindle to turn off.

The safety stuff for nearly all machines these days is a pure PITA. But I've had 17 years to get used to the new normal. I'm pretty good at not breaking the safety rules. I figure if I work WITH the safety systems in place, customers are more likely toas well. Whereas if I were bypassing the door interlocks it just sets a bad example not to mention the legal implications.
