Given all the crap that people waste time and money doing I don't think that traveling to see an eclipse is such a bad thing.
I got to see one in the early 70'S in Virginia with my Dad and it's one of the coolest memories from my childhood
3:20 seconds? It's really about a 2 hour event start to finish although the really cool part is only about ten minutes long.

BTW, we booked all of the rooms at our B&B for the eclipse about ten months ago so don't ask.

A B&B near my lake house I used to have was getting $500 a person for solar eclipse about 7 years ago.

Seeing the stars in the sky at 2 in the afternoon is pretty cool.

I have never seen so much traffic on the highways.

We didn't think that it was fair to gouge the tourists, but man, we coulda' made a bundle.

A friend of mine is a retired school teacher, he has a group of friends that travel all over the world to see solar eclipses. they mostly use it as an excuse to visit somewhere they've never been and let the eclipse pick the destination for them. It's a cool idea.

I was amazed at all the people who came from far away to see the last one we had. I'll not get on the highways this time.

Just for fun, I got on the IHG website and checked out if there were any rooms available from April 7th to April 9th in the Cleveland area (supposed to be prime viewing). Most of them had no rooms available. The 7 who did ranged in price from 282 per night to 474 per night. The Holiday Inn Express Airport - Brook Park is charging 367 dollars per night from 4-7 to 4-9. From 4-9 to 4-11 the price drops to 128 per night.

The last one a few years ago Facebook morons were parroting to "bring your pets inside during the eclipse!"

lol how many dogs stare at the sun?
I got into it with one idiot in particular (former friend). She just couldn't fathom the idea that dogs don't stare at the sun and was adamant that I was advocating for hurting animals lol.

It was awesome to see it when I was in 6th grade. The school gave us all special glasses and we went outside to see it. Of course as kids we all snuck a peek at the sun lol.
