An interesting article from Strategy Page

QuoteCovid19 is turning out to be more panic than pandemic and that can be seen in the growing popular opposition to government quarantine efforts that cripple the economy. In most of the world covid19 is seen as a disease doing much less damage than earlier killer influenza and similar disease outbreaks. For example, the 1957/58 Asian Flu (H2N2) killed at least 116,000 Americans. Adjusted for larger current population, that comes to 223,000 in 2020 and a worldwide total over two million. Covid19 deaths so far are 1.6 million worldwide. The U.S. claims nearly 19 percent of worldwide covid19 deaths for a country that has 4.2 percent of the global population and one of the most advanced and pervasive health care systems on the planet. This is due to an American history, since colonial times, of aggressive medicine. This has led to all sorts of odd behavior and in the 20 th century it led to hypersensitivity of unexpected medical threats and highest spending per capital on medical care in the world. This also gave politicians an opportunity to do whatever they could to this cultural approval of extreme measure to deal with sickness.

I wish our government would have just alerted everyone of the dangers... made recommendations... and allowed everyone to be adults to make their own decisions.

Yes, I can agree with that.  Instead the head of the government convinced about half the people it was all a hoax and would magically disappear in April, that the experts are stupid or lying, that they should take no precautions whatsoever, and that anyone asking people to take precautions was restricting their freedoms.

You say, "convinced about half the people."

We're you convinced by that head of government?

My shop had zero new infections from last Friday's tests, but I expect that will change after the Christmas breaks and family gatherings.
I was tested 2 weeks ago and was clear. I've been working from home for about 3 months now
My wife goes to work every day, but she has the office locked down.
I just read that Cali is seeing 130 to 150 deaths a day and most counties have zero beds available in Intensive Care
Ambulances are looking at 4 to 6 hours waits to unload patients at local hospitals
To top it off, 2000 local nurses are threatening a Christmas strike.
Things are getting ugly

LOL, I don't plan on taking it, but it says I am behind 286.7 million people. I'm in the last ten percent.

I'm not far ahead of you

QuoteBased on your risk profile, we believe you're in line behind 257.2 million people across the United States.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

So there is this FB group called reopen mn. It is made up of small businesses, restaurants, gyms, and supporters. This week they are planning a protest reopening where over 100 businesses are planning to reopen in defiance of Emperor Walz orders. This forced Walz to update his orders today. Today he announced restaurants can open outdoor seating with 50% capacity....... in MN, in December. What a joke. Who is going to eat outside in MN in Dec.

that was pretty much aimed at breweries, but still ridiculous.  I expect more to tell Walz to eff off and will just open up.  You can go back to gyms for hours, but you can't sit inside and eat, even though it's an extremely small percentage of cases that have been traced back to restaurants.

I'm behind 23 million people. I said "yes" to health risks since I have type 2 diabetes.

Kate and I have eaten out once since March.  We'll be staying home for a while no matter who opens up.  I've got some business things moving, I can't afford to get sick right now.

My wife is an ICU nurse and is first in line to get the shot. She declined it. Saying she isn't going to be a test subject... Well as of now she declined it until the force it on her like the flu shot.  We are having a pretty high out break here right now and she is seeing the worst of the worst. She traveled to Texas a few months ago when they had a big bump in outbreaks and said that was nothing like what is going on now.
