The nation's largest private equity firm is interested in buying your DNA data. The going rate: $261 per person. That appears to be what Blackstone, the $63 billion private equity giant, is willing to pay for genetic data controlled by one of the major companies gathering it from millions of customers.

Earlier this week, Blackstone announced it was paying $4.7 billion to acquire Ancestry.com, a pioneer in pop genetics that was launched in the 1990s to help people find out more about their family heritage.

Unsure if the TOC's signing up regarding privacy, and ancestry promising to keep all data "secret" - how that would now change?
If the new owners amend the TOC's to state "we can now do what we want"....is that actually valid?
Because if your sign-up deal was private, and they now change it, there *should* be some comeback

Ancestry.com is the least of my worries. I was fucked long before we did that. LONG BEFORE that.

Unless you were born, raised and only ever lived in the backwoods off gird, your stuff is somewhere. Your DNA, your digital footprint, your identity info, etc... is somewhere, accessible to anyone for the taking.

All of these so-called family tree websites that popped up at the same time a few years back.....
What do you think their end goal was?
"send in a dna sample and we'll tell you the name of some dude that you're related to that lived in 1803!"

I would never consider doing something like this, however. 

Several years back my Aunt did one of these.  She was able to find out that she had a nephew that nobody knew about. It turned out that my Mom, before I was born and shortly after my sister was born, had another child. She gave the child up for adoption and then kept it a secret from the family for 50 years.

So about three years ago I found out that I have a brother that we didn't know about. 

On the flip side of this, I can only imagine that there are people out there who don't want to find out that they have unknown family members.

maybe....but during the covid thing, they said some blood types are more prone to covid symptoms than others. It made me curious about my blood type. last year, I asked my GP what my blood type was and he couldn't tell me. He had all of my medicial records right in front of him and they do a blood workup on my every year. But he said they don't test for blood types, and when I asked him how I would find that out, he said they would have to request that test, but the Insurance would likely deny paying for it.
