A dipstick heater that will prevent ice from coating the outside of your car? Where can I get one of those? They are talking over a 1/4 inch of ice here Monday into Tuesday.  :harhar:

Those hummingbirds have really appreciated those feeders these last couple of days.  We've had to bring them in at night to let them thaw, but we have a flock (charm) of hummingbirds that haven't left the immediate area. One almost landed on ST yesterday when she was messing with the feeder.

i run a block heater. i think it is in one of the freeze plugs and warms the coolant. stock for diesel so i just plug it in. heater puts out warm air much faster when i plug it in over night.
dip stick heater never heard of such a thing till this OP. just a quick google netted some results of possable fires and have been outlawed in some places. like i say never heard of it so have no personal experience. i do however believe firmly in GFI plug ins for any thing outdoors especialy in rain or snow.

And here I thought that "dip stick heater" was meant as a euphemism. :D

Sometimes you really impress me.

A little late perhaps, but here's a NE Ohio driving tip from my previous life. Put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator. If you cut a smaller hole, 6" or so you won't even have to take it out until temps go above freezing.

Dipstick heater? I use what the Indians call a Garage and no they aren't just for putting all your "stuff" into.

It was -8 this morning. My car started, barely. The wipers worked long enough to clear the snow off then quit even trying to work. The button panel for my garage door opener didn't work so I couldn't use the remote in my car. I had to use the one by the door leading into the kitchen.
As I write this I'm thinking of the lowest temperature ever recorded in Kansas. -40 was recorded, in 1905. I think what life must have been like in Northern Kansas in 1905 and realize what a little whiner I am.
