So is leading in defeat...........

It sure would be nice for France to offer him asylum in one of the many russian owned estates, in exchange for ending the conflict. This kind of defeat can be bad for your health. They may still be able to attain military victory and occupation, but it would be a good political move to offer asylum.

No, no they won't.

Agree 100%

Putin's biggest mistake was underestimating the amount of resistance he would get from the Ukrainian people.

He also overestimated his military capability.
Storming in there with a bunch of conscripts and thinking he was going to see the Ukrainian people roll over and surrender in a few days or weeks was about as unreal an expectation as he could have possibly had.

Trying to bow out gracefully at this point is not possible, and it definitely doesn't fit Putin's character.

The War of Putin's defeat

QuoteIn 50 years' time, historians will study the Russian invasion of Ukraine during the first part of the 21st century. Alongside marveling at the amounts of hydrocarbon fuel that the competing armies used, the war will be cited as a classical case of humanity's propensity for hubris, alongside its ability to make bad decisions when they are surrounded by people who agree with them. Both of these human frailties were ably demonstrated by President Vladimir Putin during the course of the war.

As they analyze the social media reporting of the war, the historians will conclude that the short-lived war had three turning points.

Quote from: Newbeeee™ on September 14, 2022, 06:11 AMOh...Russia supplied metals to USA

a large percentage of titanium forgings used in the aircraft industry came from Ukraine.
These forgings require massive presses to produce and there are only a couple in the whole world and none left in the US.
One of them was in the steel plant in Mariupol that got demolished in the early days of the war.

Quote from: Newbeeee™ on September 14, 2022, 07:05 AMOur Aug eleccy bill here for the month.
Last year 110.
Today 255 (after 34 discount so should be 289).

It is VERY noticeable the amount of people out in the olive groves cutting down the trees....

Western aligned central banks all follow what the US Federal reserve does. At some point, Jerome Powell will get serious about raising interest rates close to the core CPI number, thus triggering a recession (which is going to happen regardless).
Reducing aggregate demand will be the only thing to suppress energy and rents.

I love the videos from the 2020 G7 meeting
Trump was speaking, warning Germany that their reliance on green energy and Russian gas was not a good idea
The German delegation was openly laughing at him.
I'll bet the smug ignorant bastards aren't laughing now

Trump said a LOT of things and the dumbsmits mocked him for it.
And a LOT of those things came true.

Trump, the greatest POTUS of our lifetime, pretty much predicted 9/11 in a 2000 book.

In Chapter 1, he wrote, "I really am convinced we're in danger of the sort of terrorist attacks that will make the bombing of the Trade Center look like kids playing with firecrackers. No sensible analyst rejects this possibility, and plenty of them, like me, are not wondering if but when it will happen."

"One day we're told that a shadowy figure with no fixed address named Osama bin Laden is public enemy Number One, and U.S. jetfighters lay waste to his camp in Afghanistan. He escapes back under some rock, and a few news cycles later it's on to a new enemy and new crisis."

The attack was a good prediction but the terrorists were in Washington DC.
