This is my latest project that we are building in the FL shop. It's an Okuma Genos M560 with a big ABB robot and pallet storage for 100 (24*14) pallets. There is also two load stations that can each hold two pallets for easy A-B loading. We have a new fresh out of college engineer that is helping me on the project. He interned for us a few summers and is really sharp. He is living in FL which should minimize the number of trips I need to make to get this cell up and running. I'll post more pics as we get thing assembled.

Is the FL shop running(or going to be running) similar parts as the MN shop or is it a completely separate entity?

Similar parts. They were one of our biggest competitors before we bought them out. They still maintain their own brand and product line.

Impressive! 100 pallets is awesome! Your boss better give you a raise once that money printer is up and running.

Lots of questions!

How was designing all of this stuff in Topsolid? I'm getting ready to make the switch and will probably be doing lots of automation design in it in the future in it.

How are you doing the Electrical Design?

Where are you putting the robot controller/electical cabinet in that cell?

How are you managing the cell scheduling and overall Cell program structure? Ie is there a cell controller orchestrating things or is this all out of the okuma controll.

Tell me more oh wise one!

Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see.

Safety! is no Accident!

What Okuma options needed to be spec'd to make all that happen?

None besides the base machine the way we do it. We make our own robot interface using a combination of an Okuma API App, external M codes, and physically jumping into the cycle start/feed hold/etc buttons.

There is an external PLC that is the main controller of the cell. the API app sends out data for signals like door unlocked, door open, in cycle, etc to the PLC every 100ms. The machine M codes are used to request pallets in/out. The PLC is tied into the cycle start, etc and the robot can control those via the PLC.
