Only a completely brain dead imbecile would want such a thing... and we should do them a favor by euthanizing them.

:coffee:

We should make a thread about this and see if there are any compelling arguments for it. That don't include euthanizing or death.  :D

IMO, not only should we keep the electoral college, but I think it should be the same as the house of reps. whoever wins a majority of districts should win the presidency. That would give you the truest representation of the voters. That way, even Smit who lives in a deep red state, can feel like his presidential vote matters.

You end up with the same problem we have now.

The percentage of people living in those districts keep making up smaller and smaller percentages of people moving to places that have better opportunities..   Is that really a fix?

Just don't invite that professor from Kansas U who said that people who won't for a woman should be lined up and shot.
Then, knowing he fucked up, said "erase that part, I don't want the Dean seeing that".

That made no sense.. give me a minute and I'll try again.   I'm trying to eat lunch.

Sure, and I'll try not to take any advise from anyone who thinks they've been abducted by aliens?

The percentage of people living in areas that made the electoral college important has more than diminished over the years.  Everyone moves to areas that have better opportunity.  The number of electors hasn't changed to reflect that.

I'm not arguing one way or the other..  I'm just hoping that nobody has to die over it. :D

I disagree. Metro areas are expanding in population but it is not all in the actual metro center. It is more urban sprawl in the surrounding areas of the big cities. Those areas are the highest contested House seats. They actually make up a truer representation of the electorate. I live in MN CD2. in the last 22 elections this district has flipped between R and D 8 times. If MN congressional makeup went to towards presidential votes there would have several times in the last four decades that the majority of voters chose R versus the four decades of Dem presidential electors being awarded.

That urban sprawl isn't really what I'm talking about.  States have a designated number of electors.  The percentage of people they are representing doesn't reflect what it did 50 years ago.

Getting rid of the electoral college isn't a new idea..

Well let's take a look.

Which states have the highest amount of Tent cities??

Which have the Highest Homeless rate??

After all they are moving there for a Better Opportunity.

Are they moving towards the most Populous or away? ::)  ::)

What states are promoting these with policies that reward?

so technically it is being said.

100,000 homeless should have more say then 10,000 hard working. :)

I'm saying that each Congressional district should count for 1 elector. 435 in total, simple majority winner takes all. Decided by majority of districts versus the system we have now.

haha.. Well of course. That would benefit you  more than it would the majority.

Let me ask this in a ridiculous way.

If the majority of districts had 10 people and the rest lived in 5 districts, should the 100 people be able to rule the millions?

I see it as a half way option between the electoral college as it is versus simple popular vote winner takes it.

I don't get the purpose of that question. House districts are divided to be equal numbers of people. Currently it is just under 400k registered voters per district. Yes, there would still be districts that lean heavily one way and some people would feel their vote doesn't count, but it is far less than the current system.
