This could be good news for the future of clean energy?

Amazon goes nuclear, to invest more than $500 million to develop small modular reactors

https://www.cnbc.com/2024/10/16/amazon-goes-nuclear-investing-more-than-500-million-to-develop-small-module-reactors.html

"Amazon Web Services is investing more than $500 million in nuclear power, announcing three projects from Virginia to Washington state. AWS, Amazon
's subsidiary in cloud computing, has a massive and increasing need for clean energy as it expands its services into generative AI. It's also a part of Amazon's path to net-zero carbon emissions.

AWS announced it has signed an agreement with Dominion Energy
, Virginia's utility company, to explore the development of a small modular nuclear reactor, or SMR, near Dominion's existing North Anna nuclear power station. Nuclear reactors produce no carbon emissions.

An SMR is an advanced type of nuclear reactor with a smaller footprint that allows it to be built closer to the grid. They also have faster construction times than traditional reactors, allowing them to come online sooner."

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Google is testing it as well.

One of my customers has been working on this project for I think 3 years. I had to keep it under my hat.

You just cannot beat nuclear energy.

Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see.

Safety! is no Accident!

Rolls Royce (UK) have been pioneering this for 10+ years (a mate has been working on it).

Microsoft is also exploring doing this...for their datacenters.

We're letting the private sector do something for once in Canuckistan. Probably will be profitable and on time, and nobody will know how to feel about it.

On the 20th anniversary of Chernobyl, my teacher in high school showed us a documentary, and that got me on the path of researching and advocating for nuclear power. That accident was a failure of the Soviet Union, and not nuclear power in general - and I'll die on the hill that we shouldn't judge a whole category of power generation by 2 accidents of antique designs (Fukushima and Chernobyl).

All the big players are going the nuclear route. It's the only feasible option.

I don't even count Fukushima is the failure column. That was a failure to see an historic tidal swell. Tragic, and really unforeseeable miscalculation.

France has been doing Nukes for DECADES safely. Nuclear is really our only option for clean, MISSION CRITICAL reliable energy.

The interesting part about this will be the reaction from the environmentalist faction of the Dem party. Hardcore environmentalist are avidly against nuclear power. They have been in the forefront of Dem policy for a while. However the Dem party elites love the censorship big tech provides plus all the donations they provide. Me thinks the environmentalists will be lied to and placated and in the end will be sold out.
