But you DO realize that if we didn't cull things like the deer population, we would be overrun with them, right?

We have the history to prove it here in PA, and other states do as well.

Reducing their numbers by hunting is far less cruel than allowing them to starve to death.

Yes, 80% of agricultural land is used to grow crops to feed animals for slaughter. By ending the consumption of animals we would drastically reduce the unintended harm caused to bugs and other small animals.

Then we'd just be doing the same thing with kale, spinach, and cabbage to meet the demand required if meat went away.

No, actually we could cut farmed land use by over 50%+ by only farming vegetables for human consumption.

Another falsehood from big AG. Ecosystems find balance. The reason why deer populations grow too large is because their natural predators, like wolves and coyote, have found it is easier to kill captive cattle and other farm animals than chasing down a deer. So we hunted Wolves and other predators to near extinction.

I highly doubt that since most vegetables have a lot shorter shelf life than meat. Also there would still be corn for ethanol, corn syrup, etc and soybeans for ink, industrial use, etc.

Jim at Gentex

Right, but when we stopped doe hunting here in PA the population exploded and you couldn't drive a mile anywhere without seeing a dead deer by the side of the road.

No falsehood there because I saw it for myself.

Well
I guess since you saw some deer that were hit by cars I'll just ignore this actual data on wolf populations.

Both can be right.

I saw more than 'some' dead deer, and it wasn't just coincidence that it happened at a time when there was a moratorium on doe hunting in PA.

Occam's Razor.

Umm, you can can or freeze vegetables for a long time. There is no need for ethanol other than to buy votes. The numbers I stated account for Industrial use of oil producing crops. Even with all of those uses, the majority of crops still go to feeding animals for slaughter.

Occam's Razor.

Except that we have never seen a no hunting and resorted wolf population scenario.

From a practical standpoint, restoring the wolf population in the wild is a non-starter, so that leaves hunting as the most viable deer population control measure.

Urban sprawl has its price.

Is it though. If Wolf populations didn't have such easy pickings from farmed animals, they would eat the deer. Yes it would take some time, but sure, let's do more killing to solve the problems we created from all the killings we have already done.

I would not consider 40% the majority
