Just sent the wire transfer to make my final mortgage payment and pay the loan off.

Finally debt free - no car, house, credit card, any loan payments what so ever.

Time to celebrate?   lol.

On the down side, my property tax + HOA is now costing me almost as much as my original mortgage payment. But I feel like $700 a month for a 2 bedroom 1200sq foot condo with a garage isn't too bad.  Time to move to Idaho

Congrats!

I made my last mortgage payment a couple of months ago and it felt great!

All we are paying now is taxes and living expenses, which is one of the biggest reasons I will be able to retire in March.

Being debt free is a wonderful feeling of freedom. I have been now for maybe 5 years, and swore I would never borrow another dime in my lifetime. The dumb thing is that your credit rating will now drop (not that it matters).

Congratulations!

When I started the forum I created an account for her and picked the name. She wasn't too enthused about it but found the humor in it after some time went by.

We've been talking about it.  It's a while before either of us are able to retire, but when we do, it won't be in Washington State. This State is right on the heels of California when it comes to corruption.  Every time we get to vote on an initiative, if the Governor doesn't agree with it they sue to get it reversed, and since the Supreme Court is full of liberals, they always get their way.

I know that Idaho is the mirror image of Washington State, but at least they don't tax their citizens in to submission.

Congrats!  I probably have 18 or so years to go to pay off my house, but who am I kidding, I'll sell before then.  I wanna retire somewhere in the desert, but the wifey doesn't agree  :popo:

House has been paid off for a while. After we sold our house and bought my parents house after mom passed we have put a ton into it. New roof, gutters, siding and furnace. We have remodeled and redone downstairs bathroom, family room and the room off of that made into a bedroom for my daughter. Upstairs we knocked down a wall an opened up the kitchen. That's been completely redone. Stripped and redid the deck this summer. First thing we did though was run a gas line around the house so we could put a gas fireplace insert in the upstairs living room. Painted a few rooms. My dad lives with us and we left him in the master bedroom. There is a small bath in there that is the only room left that really needs any work.

2 cars left to pay off. They are at zero percent interest so I'm waiting till right before we pull the plug to pay them off

All been done for cash. Did wipe out one small retirement account for the kitchen.

We are ready to retire I hope because we don't have much choice. 😁
