I've never worked any where that had PTO.

Always have to use vacation time if I'm out sick. Although Missouri just voted in mandatory PTO for most employers, in the last election. still waiting to see how it shakes out here, the wording on the bill was a little vague.

Many years ago we had both vacation and sick pay. I think at first it was 2 weeks of each. But if you took more than 3 days of sick pay a year you were dinged on your review.

Of course many people used up all their sick days anyway.

After a few years they took away the sick pay and changed the vacation to PTO. They added another week of PTO because we lost our sick pay, and that was great for me because I never used the sick pay.

Plenty of people did bitch about it though. Most of those people didn't last very long there.

I worked at a place once that had vacation and sick leave. They told the employees they were going to roll sick leave into their vacation pay. Then they took away the sick leave but did not increase the vacation time.

Those employers suck.

They did, big time.

The old cliche; nothing for the employees but high dollar new cars for the bosses.

I was only there part time then. Just making some extra cash to pay for my kids college.

At my previous gig in NY state they had no locks on doors. None, till you got to the F-35 building and where they developed crap for F1 cars. Surprisingly it was easier to get access to the F-35 stuff than it was the F1 stuff. Everything was the honor system...but over the past 10 years I have heard that they are not as lax as they used to be.

I do miss their vacation setup. I believe 5 weeks after 5 years, 4 weeks after 10. Here is the kicker to that tho...on your 10th anniversary you got a bonus 7 weeks on top of the 4 weeks. So 11 weeks of vacation on year 10. Year 11 went back to 4 weeks...but every 5 years they would give you the 7 week bonus.

They allowed unlimited carry over. There were guys retiring with over 2000 hours of vacation on the books. So they would collect their regular paycheck for a full year after they retired.

Del.

The place I worked for way too long didn't give 3 weeks vacation until you were there 20 years. Damn I hated that place.
