Does every shop have that guy who walks around complaining about everyone to everyone else in the shop?

I've watched this guy talk shit about one guy to another, and then go straight to the other guy and talk shit to him about the guy he was just talking to.

You'd think that this guy was ≤millennial but he's 60.

We've got a guy like that.
What makes him really bad, is he socializes with management and anything you say to him goes straight
to the top.
I'll walk all the way around the building to avoid walking past his machine.

neurosis

This guy is super toxic.

He's a fairly good machinist, and even pathetic machinists are hard to find right now.

People like that are a cancer to a working environment.

Yes, yes everyone has one. I have a coworker who reports me regularly for made up infractions..

Not true.

Some of us work in mold shops where it's common to have 25.

You just described our grinder hand to a T!
He's late 50's, known him for years, the BIGGEST baby on the planet.
Everyone is out to get him and fuck him over, everyone. And everyone is getting away with something that he isn't.
He has to have every special privilege that other employees might have PLUS one of his own. For instance a worker got permission to start working an hour later than normal during the week due to home circumstances and make up the time on the weekends. Well guess who also gets to start an hour later now? Yep,the grinder. Because that other person was getting away with something that he wasn't.
If it starts snowing/raining heavy outside, he walks around to everyone in the shop (10 people) and tells each one how hard it's snowing/raining.
And you can always tell when he's going to ask the boss for a raise, because he's on his best behavior for a week while being a bigger tattletale than Cindy Brady.
LOL literally as I type this he's outside my office yapping with my millhand because he's worked hard for the last 20 minutes and needs a break from not grinding.

Haha.. Nice.

About a month ago, this turd crashed his machine and ended up scrapping a $5000 part.  He tried to blame it on the program. A program that had already been proven.  It turned out that he loaded the wrong program.  As soon as we called him out on it, rather than just take responsibility, he proceeded to tell us everything wrong that everyone in the entire shop had done for the last month.

In my 35 years of machining, I've never worked with a guy like this before.  Back in the day someone would have taken this guy outside and kicked his ass.  It's so hard to find good machinists these days that the front office doesn't want to lose him and have to search for a replacement.

Been there. Many years ago I screwed up a 5,000lb chunk of steel in the cnc lathe. It was either 4150pht or 17-4 stainless I can't remember. But I just walked right into his office and told him that I fucked up. Of course he wasn't happy about it but I know he appreciates when people man up and admit their mistakes.
I've never understood people that are afraid to admit they scrapped a part and they either try to hide it or blame someone else for it.

I remember I scrapped a part worth maybe 1000$ or so twice in my 4 years at my current Job, one time I made a mistake in a software add-on that caused a coworker to scrap the part, I told them it was my fault right away.

Both times were errors in the tool definition

Mine was a roll die that I was turning. I took the tapered bearing diameter EXACTLY .025" small.

It's so much easier and less mental anguish to just own it and get it over with.

Fortunately I have never scrapped a part.
