I'm not sure how things work in aviation, but I would have a difficult time believing that anyone, woman, or man, would let their ego get in the way of the safety of the crew.

That is why I think there is more to the story.

Yea.. like I said earlier, I thought I read somewhere that a command from the tower didn't come through.

"Additionally, both pilots inadvertently cut off air traffic control instructions when they pressed their microphone buttons to speak, potentially missing crucial information."

I don't know if that had anything to do with it?

I'll probably read more in to this when I get home.  I have an RSS feed here at work that just spits headline after headline at me all day.  I haven't had time to read that far in to this one yet.

Nearly every Asian air disaster prior to Korean Airlines last one has been exactly that. In their (asian)  case it was a cultural thing.  Took a while (years) to train that out of them.

The 80s and 90s were incredibly rough for accidents caused by cockpit power dynamics in Asian carriers. South Korea especially. Cases where the first-officer or flight engineer knew something was wrong, and didn't want to overstep captain's authority or the tower's perceived authority, usually an airframe loss and crew perished. Things like a nearly 90 degree bank right after takeoff, running out of fuel because they were too timid to ask for an emergency landing, or controlled descent into terrain with no corrective control inputs. it was a GD shitshow for awhile.

I don't think another company is directly responsible for more 747 (cargo and passenger) write offs in that timeframe. Pre-1991, maybe Pan Am just due to volume of departures.

The airline was accused of altering their training materials to suit the classist, and frankly sycophantic, culture in South Korea. I don't remember if that was merely a heavy handed accusation... The alterations that is, that whole country suffers from a mass delusion that their corporations and oligarchs are deities. It's like a combo of how middle aged white women hold Princess Diana on a pedestal of legend, mixed with the deepest and reddest of MAGA sentiments - but for companies and rich people.

And before you call me racist, this was reported on the news. I'm only repeating what I actually heard on the news.

And yes, somebody got fired after the news cast. I'm sure after they won a bet.
