Quote from: gcode on April 29, 2025, 10:49 AMIt took 3 days before the pilots name was released which is not how it is normally done.
This definitely true.

"Usually" the families of service members killed regardless of circumstance release the name as soon as the family has been sufficiently notified. That said, release is COMPLETELY up to the family. That said, 3 days is HIGHLY unusual in a domestic accident. If this happened in the Hindu Kush, then 3 days from the time of the accident to release of the name(s) FAR less unusual.

I remember when Navy SEAL Seth Stone died in a parachuting accident in Southern California, his name was released the next morning.... less than 24 hours.

The more I read about this crash the more I think we are missing details. The pilot was repeatedly warned by both her copilot superior and air traffic. Without seeing actual timelines of the warnings and crash one could speculate if this was intentional. Was this suicide by crash? Was this the tragic end to a love affair gone bad? I feel like the DEI blame doesn't explain why she repeatedly ignored warnings.

Target fixation may explain it. It happens WAY more than we hear about. It's why Top Gun Flight School uses a hard Deck of a certain altitude AGL.... ot give pilots time to recover as they are training. DC... while a great training environment for urban combat with heavy air traffic, mayhaps a better environment mey be one where civilians are not put at excessive risk.

Just a thought.

he was not her superior, he was a chief warrant officer and she was a captain. He had the flight experience, she had rank. it's not hard for me to see what went wrong at all.

Ok, that makes a little more sense. I still wonder why she ignored the warnings though.

Are we sure she heard him.

I thought I read a report of missing sound coming from the tower?

I don't know why I'm asking questions.  I haven't been following along.

Quote[Four minutes before the accident], as the helicopter approached the Key Bridge, from which it would fly south along the [Potomac] river, Warrant Officer Eaves stated that it was at 300 feet and descending to 200 feet — necessary because the maximum height for its route closer to the airport had dropped to 200 feet.

But even as it reached that juncture, Warrant Officer Eaves evidently felt obligated to repeat his instruction: The Black Hawk was at 300 feet, he said, and needed to descend.

Captain Lobach said she would. But two and a half minutes later, the Black Hawk still was above 200 feet — a dangerously high level...

But here we are, still sidetracked from the fact that the NYT had all this information, and decided to print the story in such a way as to fit a narrative rather than the truth. Which is why people can claim to trust the credentialed journalists rather than GP or Fox or any other media player but they are still being mislead from the truth.

And to just take a little further,  when you know that members of the media don't like Trump, you have to assume, that they will do this to any story that might otherwise show Trump doing something good. it's all narrative, narrative, narrative.

I said "superior" only because he was overseeing her training evaluation.

Yep, and at that time, the narrative was that Trump was firing ATC's making the dumbsmits rage and blame him for the plane crashes.
Literally anything to avoid the truth while making Trump the bad guy. Then post a redaction days later at the bottom of page 6 in small print.

When you achieve the rank of chief warrant officer, you are consider THE subject matter expert in your field.

It would be rare for a flag level officer to not follow the advice of a CWO.

Guessing this captain chick just didn't like him 'mansplaining' to her about how not to crash and die.

Isn't there a black box that captured the audio?
Seems like either she ignored him or she panicked.

I'll politely disagree, that's not how aviation works in this country and most others. Flight safety FIRST rank second.

True! and accidents are rare, but here, an accident happened. And they have the recording of him advising her to drop to 200 feet and her acknowledgement that she heard him, so either she ignored his advice or something inhibited her from following his advice.
