So what's the story behind the icons in the TP Manager?

Don't ask my why this popped in to my head. It's an irrelevant question.  

Does anyone know what the story is behind the four squares icon next to the Machine group and the four circles next to the Toolpath group in the toolpath manager?

Have those been a part of the software since the pre-X days?  We purchased V9 originally but I refused to use it so didn't get to see the legacy version of the software.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

V9 did not have Machine Groups
The Toolpath Groups do have the 4 little blue squares
