Del.

I picked a bad time to build a deck

8 x 12 will cost me over $2000.

New home construction way down

Materials off the chart.

Inflation rampant.

You all with kids getting more  monthly checks soon.

Women stampeded.

Cattle raped.

Democrats chafe my ass.

If the price is sky high anyway just build it out of 80/20 rail.

I just finished mine and had $3500 in only lumber. Thankfully bought right at the beginning of the spike and only paid a few hundred over what it would have been prior to Covid.

Priced out what it would have cost me had I purchased this week and it would have been about $10k in lumber. All total last year it was $22k, right now, $35k. And that was zero outside labor.

Nice work on that deck. Can tell a machinist built that thing. Everything is straight square and evenly spaced.

That's what she said.

Glad I built mine when I did.

I really don't get what's with all the various product shortages going around. Everybody wants to blame the 'Rona, but most states have been opened up for months.

Unrelated to lumber, I recently tried to buy 2400 pounds of smoked pork loins for a fundraiser scheduled for this Saturday. The supplier has been giving us the runaround for a month, not wanting to quote us a per pound price until last week. He assured us supply wasn't a problem, just very volatile prices in the pork market right now. Price ended up being 30% higher than last year. Not a big deal, we could eat that increase and still make good $$$. Dude called Monday and said he'd only be able to deliver 1200 pounds this Friday and wanted to know if that was OK. No, it's not.
