QuoteTexas Governor Greg Abbott has said that Democratic lawmakers who have left the state can and "will be arrested" upon their return as he pushes ahead with changes in voting laws.

Abbott, a Republican, gave an interview to KVUE on Monday about the Democrats' decision to leave the state and whether the special session of the Texas legislature the governor called can go ahead.

The Democratic legislators flew out of Texas to Washington, D.C. on Monday in order to deny the legislature the two-thirds quorum needed in order to conduct business and to pass legislation.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

They have some lame excuse for leaving though. Lock em up! (still chanting it!)

The best thing is the utter hypocrisy of the dems/media about this. Just a few years ago R legislators in Oregon did the same thing, flee to avoid voting on a bill they didn't agree with. The dems were calling for state/US marshals to go pick them up and make them vote. Now that it's the other way around these dem legislators are being portrayed and heroes and martyrs.

Amen brutha!

Course, when the Republicans in the Senate filibuster to prevent legislation being voted on nobody here seems to mind.

Explain the functional difference.

The Democrats can and will filibuster also when they perceive that it's needed and I'm ok with that.

I suppose it's harder to talk until you can't talk anymore than it is to take an extended vacation somewhere. But the point is moot because a bus full of democrats is only going to go left, which will cause them to make one trip around the block and end up where they started.

The filibuster was put into place to help prevent the majority party from steamrolling the minority party on every single issue.
The minority party usually only resorted to that tactic when there was a deadlock in negotiations on a high priority issue.
The intent behind it was that it would be used basically as a stalling tactic to practically force the leadership of both parties back to the table to negotiate while the filibuster was taking place.
The founding fathers were very wise to include that option, knowing that it would probably be rarely used, and only for very high priority issues.

Simply leaving and refusing to vote short circuits the negotiating process altogether, so that is the functional difference.

The founders were much smarter than the current clowns running the circus, both D and R.
