say corporate HQ was moving from New Jersey to North Carolina

My first ever visit to the USA, was a trip to the lofty mist shrouded institution in Tolland, (where I encountered JParis, who was visiting as well :) ), and then on to the Sandvik Coromant facility in FairLawn NJ. That was a pretty well equipped facility. At the time, they had a big Integrex and a 5 axis Mori Seiki there, along with a bunch of other machines. We spent about three days doing a training course, and it was really informative.
CNC Softwares own 'lil piece of Poison Ivy.
TopSolid for the Win :)

July 15, 2021 | HSM EXPRESS
Thank you for being an Autodesk customer! Autodesk has decided to discontinue HSMExpress development, but we have great news for you!

Your upgrade path now will be full functional HSM at a significant discount...this will help you be 30-50% more efficient in programming 2 axis work, but also will open up capability for you to expand to 3D work should that be of interest

With Gibbscam being bought and sold so many times the last few years, it seems the already lackluster improvements were even less than before. I am hoping Sandvik is in it for the long haul and invests heavily into the development team.

My employer recently purchased a small job shop from a retiring owner.
He used Gibbscam. I don't know what version or what modules he was running.
They advertised for a Gibbscam programmer for months and got exactly zero qualified applicants.

This reminds me of something that happened a couple of years ago.
Sandvik developed an app that ran on Apple tablets.
It could create dynamic 2d roughing, finishing and drilling toolpaths paths on simple solid models
They marketed it heavily, a half dozen emails a month for months on end, endless phone calls  etc etc
I politely explained I had zero use for such a product and was not interested in a free trIal.

Our local rep even cold called one afternoon with a high level executive from Sweden in tow.
The executive was extremely proud of his creation and insisted on giving me a demo.

A half hour into it, I interrupted him and told him to let me show him something.
I took him on a walk through our shop and stopped at a 105K pound compressor housing
and asked him to tool path that.  That put paid to his demo.
I felt bad doing it, but he would not give up on his cute little toy.

Sandvik clearly has world class engineers developing their cutting tools and related technology
but I think someone has been tasked with bringing Sandvik into the CAM world
and that somebody has no idea what they are doing or what the market needs.

Perhaps they are butt hurt that Sandvik Prime has not been a bust out product and blame it
on Mastercam being the only CAM company to support it.

Prime is a really good product for the right applications.
We absolutely murder some big TI and Inconel rocket nozzles with it on our big VTL's
Personally I would never use it in a chucking application without a tailstock.
I wonder how many lathes Prime has destroyed pulling an undersized slug out of the chuck??
I cringe just thinking about it.

correction ... Ron stated in an earlier post in this thread that NX now has a Prime Turning module
I did not know that..
It think it's a safe bet no one will be buying NX out any time soon

I would think Prime is targeted towards job shops with smaller parts, tailstocks don't come into play, I cut thousands of jobs at the place i was an operator, most of it was 12" I think I used the tailstock twice, prime definitely would have worked there. Your situation has some safety concerns cuz the big parts really go boom.

Like many companies leaving California they go where the state is more business friendly.

This! We were about ten miles from the Sandvik Fairlawn campus. We just had a meeting last week with our local reps and were told that, in the middle of the pandemic, the taxes on the building and such were tripled. Sandvik saw no choice but to find an alternative solution. Let's see who picks up that building amid the tax and tax more attitude of the New Jersey powers that be.
