the fall of Saigon Kabul is upon us.  It's sad to see. I know of 2 people who were killed there and it feels in vane now.  I get the arguments for and against leaving.  And honestly I'm not sure where I stand on it.  But the one thing that I DO know is that if it was Trump pulling out these troops, which it likely could have been, we would be seeing interviews of scared women on CBS.  Telling us of how the US has abandoned them. Stories of what life use to be like under Taliban rule and what it will be like now.  we would see images of girls schools being bulldozed over, and the segment would end with a statement by the correspondent saying, "and apparently the Trump administration does not care. Back to you, Norah." and Norah would reiterate that, and then turn to a "feel good" story of democrats helping some inner city youth in some obscure town here in the US.

In my opinion, the damage to the institution of the press is far greater than the damage to Afghanistan, or syria or any other war torn country. If the corruption of journalism isn't fixed soon,  we will all be Afghanistan.

SO much treasure and blood was spilled there by Allied forces. This day was not planned well. We did not visit nearly enough brutal and horrific violence against the enemy. Forces were hampered by lawyers, the media and scumbag politicians.

Our nation has lost it's stomach for REAL war... the kind that doesn't stop until the enemy has lost it's will to draw breath.

I think in a deeper way, the larger problem in this and Iraq was and always was, there was never a definition of what "winning" would look like.

I've been on this as well though, hundreds of billions in treasure and thousands of lives lost and for what?

QuoteThe Joe Biden who promised to put human rights at the center of his foreign policy is the same Joe Biden now stubbornly paving the way for the world's cruelest human-rights abusers to re-establish their regime in Afghanistan.

Biden had promised us that he would restore the soul of America, but words are cheap. As the remaining U.S. troops have left Afghanistan, Afghan provinces have been falling to the Taliban like dominos. Men of the Afghan military are reportedly being executed. Women and young girls are being forced into marriage and sex slavery. And the same Biden administration that prides itself on its concern for social justice, racial justice, gender justice, and LGBT pride is going to stand by and watch girls' schools shut down, ethnic cleansing against Shi'ite Hazaras, and homosexuals stoned to death.

As reported by Axios, "the Taliban has toppled nine provincial capitals in six days and now controls an estimated 65% of the country." It "is striking with impressive speed and coordination, a senior Biden official grudgingly acknowledged. Afghans and international security are scrambling to manage mayhem."

Looks like Siagon '75

I feel bad for the Afghans who believed in the US and trusted us,
and for all the young men and women who fought and died thinking they
were doing something worthwhile

When Iran fell in 1979, wearing eye glasses was sufficient evidence of Western taint to merit execution
The purge was unreported and the dead uncounted.
My mother and step father lived in Iran and got out with the clothes on their backs
Their Iranian friends and  coworkers died to the last man and woman, most in the first bloody weeks, some years later
taken by the secret police.

Vietnam in 1975 was the same, hundreds of thousands slaughtered, millions sent to reeducation camps.
I was in the USMC in California in 1977 and I remember the tent cities that lined the 5 freeway the length
of Camp Pendleton. These were set up to house the boat people, survivors of the purges who fled Vietnam in small boats.

Afghanistan will be no different
The Taliban is saying , this will be a peaceful transition, lay down your arms, go home, all is forgiven.
Once they are in complete control the purges and slaughter will begin.
The latest generation of Afghans the 20 somethings who have taken up American democracy and
consumerism and secularism are in for a very bad time.
The girls schools will be destroyed, the girls at those schools will be killed, forced into marriage with Taliban fighters
or sold into slavery.
A shameful end to a noble but very poorly run attempt to bring a medieval country into the 22 century
