My sister publishes a regional adventure sports magazine.  Her and her small team spend a lot of time and energy creating content. They're a print magazine which is becoming obsolete but they have been doing this for 18 years and have a following.  Their website is more or less a digital version of the print magazine.

I feel like incorporating a forum like this on their website could add major value.  Discussions about articles, gear, personal adventures etc. could keep visitors on their page and auto-generate content.

If they were to hire a 3rd party to manage a forum like this on their website...how much would it cost?

When I bring it up to my sister she is dismissive.  I don't know if she just thinks its a bad idea or intimidated by the undertaking.

Do you think adding a forum is a good or bad idea?

Their website is:

Setting up a forum isn't that complicated. Who ever is taking care of their website could easily set up a forum if that's what they wanted to do.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

I think keeping most of the members here as 'us' is best. We don't want 500 members of which 400 no one has ever heard of... who don't know their endmill diameter from their shank.  :P

I'm not at all suggesting combining forums...they would have almost nothing in common.  I was just thinking that something like this format would drive traffic and self create content.
