Whats Been Your Experience - Upgrading to Windows 11?

The deadline is coming to upgrade to Windows 11. But I have been reluctant because my PC runs really well on 10. I sill make a living using Mastercam X9 (I have 2025 for importing). Do I need to worry about the upgrade breaking anything? What's been your experience?

Is anybody planning on just "not" upgrading and taking that risk?

Thanks

CNCAppsJames

Staying on Windows 10 (or earlier) is only a risk if you're connected to the interwebz.

If I was not mobile all the time, I'd have 2 computers. One for e-mail and internet, the other for work. The work computer would be air-gapped.

If you need to have that Windows 10 computer connected... me personally, I would not risk it. It's entirely possible that no issues would arise, then again it's entirely possible you could lose everything to random ware.

I told my boss 6-8 months ago that they need to get 2 new office computers (the ones that handle accounts and payroll) and I need a new computer for cad.
They asked me how much a new one for me would cost.... I said "a lot". This one is 5 years old and was $2500-ish.
Still no new ones yet.

Anyone using the RTX5080 or RTX5090 cards? I wonder how they compare to my Quadro P4000 card.

At home I went from a K5000 to an RTX 4060, lightyears ahead on every metric for $400. It's attached to a TV, so 1080p60hz was the goal. Not a single game I have stutters, and it has really good AI upscaling with the Cuda cores for old movies and TV shows. Productivity-wise, really not sure from experience. But yea, from a 2017 Quadro to current GeForce to tier you'll notice it everywhere.

No 5 axis work just 3 and 3+2

Looking to let them know the pros and cons to this system.  Suggestions?

For myself, I would spec a minimum of 64 gigs or RAM...my next go around next year and I wil likely spec at 128 gigs..

I would absolutely go for a more powerful video card....it'll give you room to grow into what is coming in the future

When you are spec'ing out systems today that are expected to last 5-7 years...go bigger than you need now..

This gives you cover to have some extra power as tasks and software expand in the coming years..short sell now and you'll likely be paying for in as little as 2 years

lol this system has been stellar.
Until not too long ago when I had a 5 axis part with 200+ toolpaths.
It slowed to a crawl at times with posting/regenerating, etc..

I had to look this up.

The windows information I found said that it's not free. I'm doing a little digging to find out if there is a free option.

I just VPN'd in to my work PC.  I see the offer so enrolled. Thanks.

I don't have any windows 10 PC's at home.

i REALLY would do as James says - disconnect all interwebz activity from this 'puter, and leave it for work only. After-all, you "earn a living from it", so it is work.
Then, get a chromebook or similar, for interwebz.
This way, you can stay on 10 running X9 for ever, with no morning graphics updates or similar, which could hose you.
My factory was 6x puters all networked, airgapped with a server, initially running XP then the newer workstations laterally 7, faultless for 12years.
Just the one standalone PC for the interwebz/email.
