A serious answer to your dumbass statements is that thank GOD most of the people I've met in America aren't like you. Not even slightly - and I'm going from my time on the road in factories. Most people are awesome and even if republican,  don't share any of the values of the people in this administration. One of my best friends is an evangelical trump voter - difference is he's not a complete tool about it like you.

SECWAR was quoting an ancient roman axiom. There are multiple variations of it but that is the basic idea.

The shop owner here voted for Trump. He's "conservative", but he's not - support the slide toward an authoritarian autocracy mixed in with blatant corruption if it means my side is owning the libs - conservative. You know, the pretend to be conservative conservatives. He wouldn't have voted for a Dem under any circumstances, but I get the impression that if he had mulligan, he wouldn't vote for Trump again.

The only thing I can come up with is people don't really agree with all those things. I mean, it would be nice and all, in an intellectual kind of way, but if it doesn't happen it's no big deal.

Look at Missouri...I'm sure you've noticed the voters there have repeatedly voted for amendments to the state constitution and their elected officials repeatedly try to repeal them. Of course then their elected officials try to take away their right to hold those elections. Pretty democratic, right?

So why do they keep voting for people who don't represent them?

I don't want to put words in your mouth. But my argument was who decides what truth is? And I pointed out that you might not like it if a republican is in office and decides what truth is, anymore than I like a democrat telling me what truth is. So my argument was (still is) I don't want government limiting speech.

You have absolutely no idea how much I pay in Federal taxes. You cannot possibly know that with any degree of certainty. State taxes... of course you do. You live in the 3rd or 4th highest taxed state in the union. No kidding.
