Quote from: Bucky Cornstarch on October 15, 2025, 09:38 PMSo you'd like a socialized plan plus the ability to buy something on the free market. Which is exactly what I said.

No. I said something similar to what retirees do for insurance.

Are you sure that we weren't headed in that direction already?

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

The military has been a public institution since it started and republicans fall over themselves to report it. Why does healthcare have to be different?

the military is a competition between countries, and competition drives innovation.

Healthcare is a service, once you turn that into a government monopoly, you remove competition, which causes complacency. By way of comparison, I got an invitation in the mail last week for a wedding that took place in May. It was postmarked Jan 23rd, 2025.

Quote from: neurosis on October 16, 2025, 04:16 AMWhat changed about your insurance after Obamacare?

That's probably a dumb question, but other than premiums/deductibles/max out-of-pocket costs rising, which was already happening anyway, we didn't notice much of a difference here.
You say that all nonchalant like.

Prior to Obamacare,  I had the same insurance company for the prior 9 years. Today, it changes every year or two. Prior to Obamacare, low to mid-single digit price increases were common, today, it is a double digit increase every year. Prior to Obamacare the number of EOB's I recieved each year 1-2. Today, it's probably a ream of paper every six months. Prior to Obamacare,  PT was covered at about 95%. Today, it's pretty close to the inverse.

I could go on, but what's the point?

Obamacare has been an abomination.

What? Yeah so is dying. Dying is one of the biggest competitive motivators, maybe the biggest.

The affordable care act is now the unaffordable care act. Typical left wing way. But it's them mean old republicans fault. I can't wait until that socialist runs NYC into the ground.

yes, and the competive nature of dying is what drives me to want choices in my health care.

Can you go to any hospital you want without facing economic hardship?
You have less choice in America

I live in the St Louis area. There are no hospitals here that are not on my plan. And there are some really good ones, here.

Quote from: TylerBeer on October 16, 2025, 07:26 AMAnd how's that

I've explained it before. I can go anywhere and for no more than $260 once a year in deductible.

That's because I don't know what insurance would be like today had it not been for the ACA. I also can't say if the attempt to gut the ACA didn't have as much to do with the destabilization of the insurance market as the ACA itself. It needed to be repealed completely, or left alone.
