I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

It has terms. Am I for any kind of student loan forgiveness? Nope.

"Under the RAP, loan forgiveness will only be available after 30 years of payments, compared to the 20 or 25 years under current IDR plans."

"The PAYE and ICR plans will be completely phased out in the future. Existing borrowers will need to transition to either the IBR plan, the new RAP, or a standard repayment plan by July 1, 2028."

"No new relief for PLUS borrowers: Parents who take out PLUS loans after July 1, 2026, will no longer be eligible for ICR or forgiveness through an IDR plan. "

I think the colleges should bear some responsibility for the student loans of their students.
The student loan program provided a bottomless well of cash for students and colleges.
The colleges have no incentives to manage costs and they don't.
The students are saddled with massive debt that is very difficult to repay.
Frequently this debt has paid for utterly useless degrees that will never provide employment or the income necessary
to repay the debt.
In many cases the students dropped out and are left with huge debts and no degrees.
The whole thing is a huge mess, but that is usually the case when Uncle Sugar starts throwing greenbacks around.

The Trump admin was sued for suspending student loan forgiveness for students enrolled in specific plans.

I'm not for student loan forgiveness, either. My reasoning may come from pure ignorance. I posted this ironically/sarcastically. I found some humor in the headline.

The ONLY method of Student Loan Debt forgiveness that I would barely be OK with would be for degrees in things we actually need but that there are low numbers of degrees earned. More often than not these are in the engineering, sciences and mathematics realms.

We don't need another single liberal arts graduate among others for at least 2 generations, maybe even 3.

Why's that, Nutboy? What if someone wants to study something different than what you didn't study when you didn't go to college?

Anyway, thanks for leaving California!
