Scary thing is, that might be the report AFTER Team Trump has cooked the books to make them look better!

You damn sure can't trust anything coming from the Federal government now.

UPS union workers just got a really rich contract.. I don't recall if they were on strike or just threatening a strike

Amazon has had delivery centers in union friendly states all over the country vote to unionize.

Modern technology has made it possible to replace many of these workers with robots.

The CEO's of these firms would be replaced for negligence if they did not embrace automation.

In our industry, machine shops used to employee hundereds, even thousands. Now it's 5% of that due to CNC machines

and automation.

And while we're at it, how many people have lost their jobs due to holier than thou Tyler's automation projects

at his workplace??  The number is nothing like the blood bath at UPS/Amazon, but I'll bet it's not zero.

Kind of shitty talk there g given how holy you are. It's absolutely zero.
You want to get into it?
You can save money on labor without reducing workforce - also decrease repetitive strain injuries and increase the skill level of the work done by the people.
Do a cursory search before you take a shot at something you don't know anything about.
What you do with that savings is the difference which is the same with anything.

Early next year you can start replacing all your ICEd out Central American maids with a very creepy android, for a decent price too! Maybe they can be used as Cycle Start Specialists as well? Hitting the green button seems less taxing than vacuuming the whole house...

To further expand on "necessity"... manufacturing is not keeping up with attrition.  Meaning more leave, retire, etc... than are being added.

The numbers vary wildly but suffice it to say we have a shortage in manufacturing well in excess of 1 million positioninhere in the US. The onlynpractical way to alleviate the issue... at least at this time because we KNOW nobody from the vast majority of those mentioned companies would come over the side of us dirty unwashed masses is to automate. They aren't going to give up their white collar jobs. So... automation it is.

Most of us can afford many things. It's choices that we make that dictate what we can truly do.
