It was what they came up with in an attempt to limit internet viewing of adult content..... to adults. Much the same as every other state restricts the purchase of adult publications... to adults.

Surely you do not want minors viewing porn... or at the very least, not viewing without their parents permission... do you?

Huh? When did you ever ask your parent's permission before "reading" your father's Playboy that you "found" under his couch in the Den?

So... you want children to have unrestricted access to internet pornography.

Quote from: CNCAppsJames on November 02, 2025, 05:33 PMIt's EXACTLY what you said.

Nutboy, like all other conservative Trumptards who claim to want government out of our lives, really only wants government to not interfere with our right as Americans to meet our 45.000 gun fatalities-a-year quota.

When it comes to any other personal freedoms, government intrusions are fair game.

That's EXACTLY (frenzied, emphatic ALL CAPS intended) what you said, Nutboy.

I guess I grew up different, my dad never had a subscription or a stash.

So, no ID check for Alcohol, Porn, Weed, Cigarettes, signing binding contracts, etc...

Yes, that's EXACTLY what you said.

I never once said or even hinted government should prohibit things. Just that an ID check is OK for online adult content, because is is the precise equivalent to an ID check at a brick and mortar establishment to make sure you meet the age criteria. If you're too ashamed to provide an ID to access adult content,  then maybe you should evaluate that Brokeback.

I am cynical. But, I guarantee you didn't  know everything. I grew up in a house that was 792 sq.ft.

Plus you have a tendency to polish your halo in public so I couldn't resist.

Utah's attempt was/is pathetic at best. A few porn sites did basically shut down in the state, but as has been pointed out, circumventing those blocks is not a challenge. I would say the average middle school with a cell phone will have the know how to put a VPN on their phone to get around things. hell most of them are taught by other kids about VPN's so they can hook up to their school WiFi and listen to Spotify.

And even if they don't have the know how, they could log into X (Twitter), Reddit, or other social media where things are equally if not more graphic than Pornhub. Then that doesn't count the countless other porn sites that basically ignore the Utah law.

Porn is like covid...once the cat got out of the bag it became impossible to contain. Do I think minors should have access? Absolutely not. Did the Utah law even slightly change the porn habits of the state? Once again, absolutely not.

I don't have the answer to how to restrict who gets to view porn. This Michigan attempt at a law and the Utah law are not effective though.

A number of years back there was a push (albeit a small one) to force "adult" content into separate domains (ex., .x, .xxx, .adult, etc...) away from .com, .net, etc....

That idea was quickly rebuffed by the "adult entertainment" industry. Not only did they throw insane cash at "the problem" of legislation/regulation, they wailed in crocodile tears "freedom of speech". There wasn't even a push to limit it, it was just a way to segregate it and give regular people and companies a more effective means to block that type of material from entering their networks.

They would of been wise to adopt the .xxx suffix. A little self policing can be a good thing, and it would let people know that they are going to be looking at something naughty, and give others the opportunity to easily block content they might find objectionable.

I don't disagree with the idea of using the .xxx suffix but on the other hand I don't think that there is likely to be much confusion when you type in Pornhub.com
