Quote from: CNCAppsJames on November 06, 2025, 07:32 AMI'm pretty sure if we looked at ALL of the global political problems we as a nation face, the lion's share of them could be traced back to that .gov agency we call the CIA or it's predecessor OSS(?).

The CIA needs to be abolished...

I'll stop before the suggestions for violence.

A decade or more ago, I stumbled upon the recently declassified (and still redacted) full report of the CIA operation that engineered the overthrow of the parliamentary elected prime minister Mohammad Mosaddegh because he nationalized the oil industry.  He figured Iran should keep 50% of the proceeds of their own oil instead of the 10% that BP had been paying out.  BP whined to MI6 who decided they didn't have enough reach to pull it off and enlisted the assistance of the CIA.  They ran the whole thing through the embassy in Ankara (Turkey) with hot lines to both agencies.  One of the principals was Kermit "Kim" Roosevelt, nephew of FDR.

So "we" reinstated the Shah and everything's been flowers and honey ever since.  Oh, wait, there was that 'they hate us" revolution in 1979, and we're all like:  Why do they hate us?  What did we ever do?

I had the report as a saved tab for a while, never did get all the way thru it.  It was like a hundred fifty pages of pretty dense and hard to follow notes, trying to piece together who was doing what where with many names being the most of what was redacted.  I suppose to protect the living.   And it was just scanned actual paper pages of the report.   I've tried to hunt it down on the interwebs a couple times since that old computer died, never have been able to find it again.

ANYBODY asking the question "why do they hate us" is definitely not a student of history.

I've never blamed them for hating us. We deserve it.

Take our citizens that are in your country hostage... I've got no problem turning your entire country into a glass ashtray. No problem whatsoever. Somebody doesn't want our people in their country, fine. Totally cool with that. I have no problem with a sovereign country exercising it's right to expel foreigners. No problem whatsoever.

I spend a lot of time reading stuff from the National Archives that is precisely that; dense, dry, redatacted, scans of faxes of scans of faxes. It is ROUGH sometimes. But I find it interesting. I'm convinced the notes are usually written by doctors. #ChangeMyMind

This was at least mostly typed, sometimes a hand-written note or scribbles in the margins.

I'm convinced that was pretty much the 2nd to last straw for Putin.

I could be convinced otherwise, but someone would have to show me an alternate money trail to the NGO's.

Follow the money is my go to strategy for getting to the bottom of things. It's not always easy, but the dig is fun sometimes.

Most Americans think we are pure as the driven snow. As truth would have it, while we do have a good side, we also have a side the destroys things we have no business getting involved in... eeeeeven if we were "the world's police", we're still wading into waters unknown and misunderstood to our historians and politicians.

Had we even paid two seconds of attention to Afghanistan, we would have defeated the Taliban (as we did almost right away), then bring them to the table and set humanitarian expectations. The majority of Afghanistan is tribal territory. Dudes up in the hindu kush wouldn't give a squirt of piss to Kabul and what they think. Yet, we imposed our will, our form of governance, our puppets, and our ideals on them. At that moment, we lost the war. All the Taliban had to do was bide their time until we got tired. Pure hubris.

Had we even paid two seconds of attention to Iraq and what we actually did know...  we would have defeated Saddam's Republican Guard and loyalists (as we did quickly), then brought the Baath Party and other country leaders to the table, set humanitarian expectations instead of propping up puppets and people that have no business running a nation.

Bottom line we need to stop imposing our will on other sovereign nations.

Every article I've read so far (Reuters, AP, BBC, etc...) leads me to believe 2 things about what's going on in Venezuela;
1) Not a single one of us (myself included) knows anything about what is going on in Venezuela's Government, military, or it's leadership.
2) Not a single person that has penned an article knows any more about it than any of us do.

It's nothing more than rage bait.

lol @ the UN calling for Trump to stop bombing drug boats.

And speaking of the UN, that moron Chicago Mayor asked the UN to step in and stop ICE from nabbing illegal immigrants.

You can't make this shit up!

I think that it's safe to say that we don't really know what's going on inside of our own government. We only know what they tell us.

I'm curious why it's so important to the US to "fix" Venezuela? I'm still waiting to see any kid of proof that fentanyl is coming out of that Country so it's hard for me to believe that is the real reason.

It has nothing to do with Venezuela.  (Except we're still mad about that communist Chavez, and of course whatever it was that they supposedly did to our voting machines in 2020 that was totally made up, got the MyPillow guy cancelled, cost Fox news lies nearly a billion dollars and got Fucker Carlson fired.)

This is a classic redirect, most recently straight out of Putin playbook.  Have shitty shit going on domestically and need a distraction for the media/sheeple - start bombing the s#!t out of somewhere else so it fills up the news until the next - SQUIRREL - comes along.

I think that Venezuela has been in Marco Rubio's crosshairs for a long time. This has more that "we're going to put a US friendly leader" Iran style regime change feel to it under the cover of combatting drugs. What could possibly go wrong.
