In response to Thad's question I am making a new thread to discuss nutrition. The one thing I will ask anyone participating in this thread, feel free to post your opinions or link to studies/data, but respect the difference.

As for the use of additives that are banned in the EU but not America, here is a short list;

https://www.thrillist.com/health/nation/8-food-additives-banned-in-europe-that-are-legal-in-the-united-states">https://www.thrillist.com/health/nation ... ted-states">https://www.thrillist.com/health/nation/8-food-additives-banned-in-europe-that-are-legal-in-the-united-states

I don't know that the use of nitrites is fully banned in the EU, but they acknowledge that they are cancer causing. In the US they are still heavily used to make ham, bacon, etc.

Here is an article showing the 10 most powerful big food industry lobbies and how they control the USDA.

https://www.thedailymeal.com/cook/10-most-powerful-food-lobbies-and-how-they-decide-what-s-your-plate-and-your-glass-0">https://www.thedailymeal.com/cook/10-mo ... ur-glass-0">https://www.thedailymeal.com/cook/10-most-powerful-food-lobbies-and-how-they-decide-what-s-your-plate-and-your-glass-0

That is also why I don't trust .gov and big pharma when it comes to Covid vaccines. To see how the big food industry has bought their way into the USDA but think that big pharma is some pristine righteous industry that is only out for good is naïve.

The big dairy lobbies have bought their way into the USDA. The USDA guidelines suggest multiple servings of dairy every day. Yet here is a study, that is peer reviewed and has been repeated, that shows dairy protein, casein, cause cancers growth.

Truthfully, it's kind of going down a "rabbit hole" when you start really researching diet and nutrition objectively. If you seek to reaffirm your dietary choices it's pretty easy to get confirmation biased results. For years that is what I did. A couple years ago I finally decided to look at it objectively and then I was shocked to learn what I have. We are truly food addicted and the big corporations know it. They use that fact to fill products with all the right mixes of stuff to keep us wanting more. They also use lobbying, bribes, smear attacks, and other means to keep the public from really seeing just how evil they are. This is resulting in the massive scale chronic illness that western society is facing. We are on the verge of overwhelming decline of our nations health. Now don't get me wrong, I believe in freedom. If you want to eat like crap and deal with the consequences it is your choice. The issue I have is that it is not a free market when it comes to food. The consumer is misinformed by the billions of dollars big food spends to keep consumers confused about nutrition. Big food has lobbied/bribed a food subsidy system that benefits their profits by keeping addicting, chronic illness causing foods cheap and plentiful. I also take issue with it because healthcare and insurance costs are not based on usage or health condition. Big pharma is just as happy with the status quo as well. They want you to be on pills. They want you to have multiple prescriptions and want you on them for life. Even more scary is the incredibly small amount of nutrition training medical professionals have. Many doctors only have one nutrition class in their entire education.

Campbell's Chunky Soups... loaded with sodium. One can like 85% of daily rec sodium (almost 2,000 mg for most of them). Sodium can kill (literally). High blood pressure a major health hazard for many Americans.

Below is a link to an interesting article. About bananas:

I kind of figured this thread would not get much interest. Most people are happy not thinking about or discussing nutrition because it points how poorly we eat. Kind of like seeing pictures or video of factory farming, it makes it awfully hard to get in line at a fast food drive thru with those images fresh in your mind.

Whether others discuss this or not, Doug, I appreciate you taking your time and sharing your info. Honestly, I haven't had much time yet to give this a serious look. I did skim through some of it though.

I can't speak for everyone, but the information is definitely interesting to me.

I can't comment on it much (other than sarcastically while joking around that is) because I haven't done a lot of my own research so anything that I have to say would either have to be a question or just me talking straight out of my butt hole.   :D

I agree with you, but I don't have anything to add.  I know my diet and exercise have fallen off the wayside in my push to get my business going, working about 7 12's.

Slacker! :lightspank:

In regards to nutrition I agree with a lot of your advise YoDoug, although not to the extent that you go. I feel that mankind is an omnivorous species. That being said I feel that we omnivores should eat less meat. I'm not so sure about dairy and cheese except limiting consumption to reduce fat intake. Also, most dairy products are highly processed and that ain't good. My wife and I are lucky to have a local micro-dairy and the milk(whole) from there is not homogenized. I tastes delicious! The way I remember milk tasting like right from the bulk tank.

Eating right, in western society, is either hard or expensive or both - but it doesn't have to be, just have to get off the beaten path.

My girlfriend eats very healthy and she does it affordably.

I think that a large part of it is not being lazy.  I eat like crap and I spend a LOT more money on the garbage that I eat than she does to eat healthy.
