Congrats on your retirement! Thanks for all the guidance and help over the years, and for the future clarity your posts will bring when I need them!

As always, one auspicious and one drooping eye. One for you making it out the other side! The other for our industry losing another guiding voice.

Enjoy it, you seem to have a grand plan, all the best with the new house, and all that will bring!

Enjoy Bud. I won't be far behind. Looking at August 2026

We will be getting 20 acres or so in Ok, and giving ourselves till August to find. If it happens sooner, that's ok too.
We have now taken care of the last of our parents and gonna have some us time.

Hey Zoober.. it's good to hear from you!!

we got a small 3 bedroom house on a half acre on the edge of town.
that's as close to "country" as I care to get.
there is also a really good hospital 4 miles away.

my search criteria was
no water wells, no septic tanks, no propane tanks, good internet
I guess I've spent too much time in the city.  ::)

Congratulations on making it to the retired life G!
The machining world is gonna lose one of the best ever.  I appreciate any help in the past you've given me!  I've been away from machining for a while now, but I still am greatful for the help in the past.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

We had basements/storm shelters on the search list but that drove the house prices beyond our price point.
The real estate agent said anything deeper than a couple of feet is solid granite which makes
digging a basement very expensive.
We decided we'd leave tornados in God's hands.

First-congrats on your upcoming retirement! What part of the country?

Second-we lived in the Midwest (Il) for 18 years, and I never saw a tornado! We did see those ominous dark grey/green clouds a few times but never a twister!

When we told folks we were moving to CA, they all said: "they've got earthquakes!", and when we told them we were from Il, they said "they've got tornadoes!"....theres always something!

Going to add another congratulations and thank you for all you've done for me and the community. I think with all your forum posts, you've done a great job passing on your knowledge and experience for the next generation. Whether we make use of it or not is TBD, but I know I'm a better programmer because of it, so thank you.

We had a programmer retire a couple years ago. After he gave a little speech, an older coworker nudged me and said "Just think, in 40 years that'll be you Jake!" Being so young, it's hard to imagine retirement.

blink and some young buck will be trying to help you down off a machine like you're some doddering old fool.  ::)

I still look in the mirror some mornings and say, "How the fuck did this happen???"

It always surprises me as to how many folks outside out the South/Midwest think about tornados.
I've seen and been thru a few (no direct hits) and they rarely cross my mind

Maybe that's the problem. You have tornado experience. I'm in New England, my tornado experience comes from that movie Twisters.

The sad thing is many are taking the mentality that created the dumpsterfire going on in The People's Republik of Kommieforniastan with them to their new home... hoping for a different result.

What's that again??? Oh yeah, the very definition of insanity.

Cool you get to contract too. They'd be insane to not go for that.

Happy for you G. Glad you and teh wifey are escaping. Arkansas is definitely getting good citizens.

Fun Gcode story...

I was teaching Mastercam at night in a local trade school. G-code was a student. That class had like a few guys I was in awe of their skills, G, Bullet, and a couple others. I learned more from those guys than I'm sure I taught them. I learned EXTREMELY valuable lessons in those years that have served me well since.

Thank you G for making me better at what I do.
