Interesting article on how our immune system and gut biome are interconnected. Also how diet plays a major role in the health and strength of our immune system response. IE, eat lots of high fiber plants you get a strong gut/immune system response, eat lots of animal products, sugar, and processed food (fiber removed) and you get a weaker immune system response.

For those that want a quick method of how to tell how processed a food is, divide the total carbs by dietary fiber. To be truly low processed you want a 5:1 ratio or less. When you look at all the breads/buns/pastas/etc choices in the store and wonder how processed they are, use this formula. A lot of supposed whole wheat or even whole grain breads are still highly processed. This also benefits weight control as well. Plant fiber is largely passed through the digestive system whole. The gut bacteria will strip out nutrients, but will not break it down. Your body converts and stores less fat from high fiber foods.
