Our Plant Manager has been spending too much time on YouTube
This morning he announced we are switching to Fusion.
My reaction " Kill me now"

We have one kid here that uses it to make tooling and program easy jobs and another that uses it to program side work. They both seem to like it but I don't think that they've used anything else.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

You'd think that recent foray into Catia would put in place rules that any boy wonder trying to implement new CAM system be promptly brought behind the woodshed and put out of their misery.

I have access to all the Autodesk stuff. Havn't bothered installing fusion. powermill/powershape looks great powerfull. Compared to Mastercam lathe :wallbash:  :w00t:  :harhar:  :harhar:
i can't even finish that sentence.

Wonder how boy wonder plans to get around ITAR and Fusion's cloud storage?

One of the major drawbacks of fusion is the cad-centric nature of the software, constraints can be a major annoyance and the need to create a sketch then create geometry can make it a bit tedious.

I used it for a month then returned it and bought mastercam, I hated it.

And their api works only in metric, which is not my unit of choice most of the time.

Why would you spend money on an inferior product?
You already own mc

So you have multi million $ machines.
Catia costing you a fortune on maintenance alone.
Now he wants something cheap and on the cloud, so he can cut back all his IT costs too. 'Cus someone else will be looking after ALL your data....!!!
HowDaFug do these people get jobs in these positions? It truly astounds me.

we dropped Catia maintenance It was +$40K/year
I don't think cheap or cutting back IT costs has anything to do with it
He saw some wizzbang You Tube video and thought, "That's what we need"
Hopefully I can kill this before any $$$ is spent

Even if you dropped mc maintenance, you would still have no reason to switch imo..

Maintenance cost is just a drop in the bucket, the savings are elsewhere, they need to drop this guy next

I was going to say - ask Titan why he stopped using Fusion and switched to MasterCam, but then I thought that you may not get an honest answer.

We switched to Fusion in January 2020 and it's worked well for us.  I'm the one using the program 99% of the time, and I also took over running the machines when covid hit as well.  I haven't run into anything I can't design or program in it, although I am definitely faster with Solidworks.  We hadn't updated Mastercam since 2016, and Solidworks was 2018 I think.  Getting both up to date was going to cost us something like $20k, which definitely wasn't worth the cost for our uses.

Do your confidentiality agreements permit sharing your customer's data with the "cloud"?

in my case, yes.  The files I work with are either my own design, or downloaded from an online repository.
