For folks who don't frequent the official forum,

MC2026R2 will be released 02/09/2026

It is the same release beta testers have been running for a couple of weeks.
I used it for a couple of weeks before my retirement and had no trouble with it.
I loved the black background for the Level and Planes Manager

There will be a full 2026R2 install.
Personally I would wait for that.
Getting R2 via the AUS (Auto Update Service) was a real chore.

I've only used MC26 for about 30 minutes. One of the things I already looked for was how to change the background color in the new managers. Couldn't find it. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Oh wait, just realized you probably meant the black background was new in R2. Thanks for the info.

Yes, it's in R2
For the Planes and Level Managers you have 2 choices, bright white or total black.
To set is change the Tool Bar theme to Dark.
The Tool Manager can be edited the same way as we've done for years

Immediately switched over to the dark background theme myself. Also, we're working on some icon revisions to Levels and Planes to improve distinctions in both themes.

Of course, now you can flashbang yourself by going from levels/planes to the Solids tab on an empty part file.

Will haters like myself be satisfied to move to 2026 now?

You mean, have they fixed the merge blasting level groups and/or not merging to active level when selected?

@Dylan Gondyke do we still have word salad for file types or are they in some sort of order? Asking for a friend.

These things take time and/or someone with a different alphabet is reviewing it each time.

There are some small fixes in R2 and some bigger fixes planned for R2 Updates revolving around Merge. There are a large permutation of scenarios you can get into when merging in a newer file with groups into no groups, older file into newer, no groups into no groups, name collisions, group collisions, level number conflicts in different nested groups between the merger and the mergee, etc, so the team is stepping through the issues and releasing behavioral improvements as they have them.

There are no grouping controls in Merge, so we have to programmatically decide the best average choice, if you will.

I haven't tried this, but perhaps the best course of action would be to save the doner file in 2026
and create the proper groups before merging it.
Then there would be no conflicts between the donor file and the receiving file.

Unless there's Group A containing level 8 in the donor file, and Group 123 containing level 8 in the receiving file. Who wins the tug of war? There can't be two level 8's with both retaining their original entities. Someone has to squash someone else.

Simple

The group + new group is combined.

The group name would be called "A-123" and the level 8 is merged together.

Invoice is in the mail.

The new kid gets put up for adoption. We can't afford another mouth to feed.

It always is for me.
Except for this time it was a breeze.
