Quote from: jstell on March 30, 2026, 01:57 PMgood luck with that today.  seriously.
The system has been rigged.  Trickle down is the motto that f'd us all.  Boomers get blamed because they did live in a time (when as pointed out, the rest of the world had been bombed to hell and we had created the most productive industrial economy in the history of the world) when there was real growth opportunity making real stuff.
Problem is then they started changing the rules, to keep more of what they had.  The generation that saw the interstate system get built just kept reducing the marginal tax rate as they watched our infrastructure crumble.  Government printing money driving inflation and now it's just too expensive to replace crumbling bridges.  So let's argue about that until it's two or six times more expensive.  Brilliant!

It could be argued.... that the "leaders" needed bodies, to build the machine, to make the MiL to go to war etc.... and then as time has moved on, and all countries are now captured, "we aren't needed"....

I know a guy who, while doing his rotations in med school, was doing his patient rounds one morning a little after deer season in the midwest, and stopped in on a middle-aged guy with a broken leg.  G'mornin'. Mornin' to ya. How's it going?
His response:  Well, I could be still in bed but I have to come in and check on guys like you who get drunk and fall out of their tree stand.
It brightened the guy's day to have a little chuckle at his own expense, since he was just going to be stuck there for a bit.

Three years ago I was field dressing a deer and it was Cold AF.  Couldn't really feel my hands, coupled with a new knife...

I had to finish removing all the organs, drag it's 150lb ass into the truck, drive to the processor, and then drive to the ER.

6 stitches later I asked the doc if a blood transfusion with a white tail was hazardous.  He said you could start growing Antlers 😂
Jokes aside, he said I was most likely okay, and I was.

Quote from: CNCAppsJames on March 26, 2026, 07:52 AMWe don't get to pick and choose how an economic system functions in the world at large.
Uh, isn't that supposed to be the deal with democracy?
I think Doug's point is made in frustration that the democracy has slid to corporate oligarchy to kleptocracy, and the winner-take-all spoils of unregulated capitalism just leads to more of the same.  If the democracy can be bought, so that it further lines the pockets of the buyers, it's not much of a democracy after all.
Just living with the lies of meritocracy, watching the world work by who you know not what you know, and by how much money you start with rather than how hard you work.
No surprise - they call it capitalism because it works for capital.
We need to add a little humanism, so it works better for people.

A "winner take all" supposition requires capitalism to be a zero sum game... which everyone with an IQ above room temperature would know is not the case.

I was referring to your last sentence "We need to add a little humanism, so it works better for people."

"Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò accused global elites of staging a coup to impose Agenda 2030 via groups like the WEF, WHO, and UN. He criticizes Pope Leo XIV as a fraud aligned with Davos, claims his own excommunication for exposing abuses, and names Fauci, Gates, Schwab, Soros, and others as criminals behind pandemic policies and wealth transfers."
