oh, wait...

American style politics is already in Canada unfortunately. Selling off government assets for a one time windfall seems short sighted in my opinion.

Our medical system here in Ontario is messed up as well. A family doctor that is part of a FHT (Family Health Team) is paid upfront for the entire year based on the number of patients in their practice. So there is no incentive to actually see their patients. Specialists like Cardiologists are fee for service, so they get paid based on the services they provide (per appointment or procedure).

The former government started a new format for building new hospitals. They get a large developer like Ellis-Don to pay for and build the hospital then it is leased to the government.

We have had both Liberal and Conservative governments federally and provincial and both have made tons of things worse. People that are party voters will champion their party as the saviour regardless. I stopped voting main stream a long time ago but I always vote.

So I have heard stories of patients waiting 565 days for an appointment in your free system.

In my current situation I have been referred and seen within Days maybe a week or two.

With follow ups already 2 months in advance. Well over $20,000 in costs and my medicare has charged me $299.00 of that.  $138.00 of that will be reversed as of my appeal.

as it was a Dr. referral.

$5100.00 MRI $4999 paid. ::)

Sometimes Free ain't worth it. :)

Despite the perception our system is not "free" I get taxed heavily to pay for this and other government sponsored services like education etc. Free in terms of not getting a bill each time you visit yes but not free if you are a tax payer.

Wait times can be quite long but it depends. I was in yesterday for a yearly appointment with my cardiologist and I am have an appointment for further testing within 2 weeks. If it was an emergency I would have not left the hospital yesterday. If you go to the ER by car or walk in you are triaged and could die, if you go in by ambulance you are prioritized (I had this experience first hand, going in by ambulance, totally bypassed the ER department and got treated immediately. Doctor said if I had walked in I would have died in the ER waiting 4-6 hours to get treatment).

"Seems"?!?  How about just "is"!  It's not like the corporation is ever going to give it back.
Like with your 407, does it at some point revert to public/gov't control?  Like when the construction loans are paid off?  Or is it just a corporate cash cow in perpetuity?
Where I live, there were a couple bridges built last century (1917 and 1966) and were tolled until they were paid for (in 1928 and 1993 respectively).

So while you were working you paid into a socialist government-run insurance program, and now that you're retired you still have access to the benefits of said insurance.  I'm glad it works for you.  Thank LBJ.

Redirecting a child involves calmly interrupting negative behavior and guiding them toward a positive alternative, rather than just punishing them.

Effective techniques include offering choices, using positive language to state what they can do, and using cues, according to the guide from Brightwheel.

This approach fosters self-control and avoids power struggles.Key Redirection Strategies:Offer Choices: Provides a sense of control, such as asking, "Do you want to color, or build with blocks?".Redirect Energy: If a child is acting out, guide their energy into a productive, active task, as suggested in this guide on behavior redirection.Use Positive Language: Tell them what to do rather than just what to stop. Example: "Walking feet" instead of "Don't run".Use Cues: Utilize visual or auditory cues, such as singing a clean-up song, to get attention.Physical Redirection: Gently guide a child to a new activity or move them away from a situation, often useful for toddlers.Provide Positive Examples: Point out other children or peers who are behaving appropriately to set a standard. How to Implement Redirection:Get Down to Their Level: Make eye contact and speak in a calm, firm voice.Acknowledge and Replace: Validate their feeling, state the problem, and offer an alternative. "You are angry, but we do not throw blocks. You can throw this beanbag".Be Proactive: Redirect before the behavior escalates, notes the report on managing negative behavior.Be Consistent: Consistently enforcing limits helps children understand expectations.
