The left has a seriously fucked up sense of what "compassion" really means. 

Compassion isn't having a Victim Olympics. Compassion isn't giving drug addicts needles. Compassion isn't giving money to homeless people without strings. Compassion isn't giving homeless people a place to stay with no rules. Compassion isn't mutilating children who's pre-frontal cortex isn't even capable of understanding what a life altering decision means. And the list goes on ad infinitum. 

When you allegedly care about another human being you should not ever want them to live and stay in their depravity or illness. Los Angles, San Francisco, Seattle and Portland... ALL are shining examples of why that is.

Those people can do whatever they want IMHO. 
I just treat them as Not real people, they don't exist to me.  Also, mostly unemployable, so more jobs for real people
