We are looking at our options for purchasing a new lathe for our cam line. We were looking at some Okuma stuff, so I ventured onto the site to download a 2 axis lathe def so I could play and see how different the code would be. It seems to me the only machine defs and posts on there now are just generic Fanuc. I could have sworn that they had Mazak, Okuma, and others on there for free. Did they pull them so that you have to pay now? If so that really sucks! I would really like to dig into Okuma stuff and see what I'm getting into if we go that route.

I'd like to say I'm Surprised by the move, but I am more disappointed than anything. I was reading on the EMC post section and Colin had said they pulled them all down so they could "sort through them". That means charge us for them from here on out.

Perhaps reach out to Dylan - you have a legitimate reason and he's a good egg.

What I gathered from our rep is the stuff is still available, but now you have to request it through them. Whether that means charging in the future or not remains to be seen.

Update:
Reached out via email to Dylan and explained the situation. He said he would pass it up the food chain. I'm sure he did. I also filled out the contact form online, even though I didn't really which department to send it to. I just heard back from them yesterday. One of the local guys, who used to work at Fastech and now obviously works for Mastercam emailed me. He said a 2 axis Okuma lathe post is a paid post now, so he would have to quote it.

I explained the situation, and he happily sent me some code snippets to highlight the differences. This was more than adequate, and am glad he went out of the way to help.

Seems like the days of free posts for basic machines is over unfortunately. Bummer, especially for situations like this.

Shout out to Dylan for taking the time to email me back, and pass it up the line. I appreciate the help.

This is so retarded. Especially in the day and age we live in where setting up your post COULD**** be as simple as feeding the Internal Post ChatbotAgent your code sample and doin the whole back n forth with it until your post is exactly as you want it.

This is probably where AI/agents would have the most impact/bang for buck in manufacturing.

Of course.... defending upon how long you have been a Mcam user, you might have actually paid for a post back in the day when they were all available on the CD....

I've actually though that would be fun to try. Load a simple NCI file, then load a NC file off of a functional post, and ask whatever AI engine to make a translator between them. The "translator" would be a post.

Im planning on doin this for a new machine later this week. I plan to use claude cowork and feed it the post docs and an existing post. Then feed it example code of what i want changed and let it figure it out.
