Lightning F150, planned for a year out. Cyber truck beats it across the board in specs and price. Well see who can get production ramped up first.

easy answer there is Ford, Tesla can't even keep up with their current orders...not that Ford can either with the chip supply issues.

Pricing is really about the same until you get to the top-tier packages, and range is pretty similar, although cybertruck has the edge there.  The other thing the F150 has going for it is that it looks like an F150, the most popular pickup on the road, which means there's already a ton of accessories that will fit it.

EV's still aren't great for people who do long road trips, the range is too low for a full day of driving, and it's too long to charge it to keep going.  My yearly fishing trip is nearly 600 miles 1-way, and in the middle of winter so the range would drop a bunch.  The last 70 miles there's nowhere to stop or charge, and 10 of those miles are across the ice on Lake of the Woods.  Then the truck would sit there, not charging, for a few days before having to make that 70-mile drive back to the nearest charging station.  An 11 hour drive in good weather would probably take closer to 15 with charging times.

Quote from: mkd post_id=11248 time=1621368430 user_id=155So Tesla created their own alloy for the casting that didn't exist before, in order not to need any heat treat or other futzing around afterwards.

****** People just don't realize how far ahead Elon's thinking is. *************

I read an article about that. It was a price reduction effort for the Tesla model three. The previous assembly had like 6 different components and was very costly make. The Tesla engineers worked with SpaceX metallurgists to develop the casting in one piece. I agree, very forward thinking.

Sun Tsu says when you are far away from the enemy, make them believe you are close. Judging by the pomp and circumstance surrounding the 'reveal' i'd say they are far away from even remotely competing on volume with Tesla. Maybe they'll ramp in 2025??????
what are the chances Ford releases the $90k model first, that no one will buy. Then years later release the $39k model, at which point team Tesla will be far far ahead.
how many factories are Ford building, exclusive to EVs, in china? germany? fremont? texas?

zero.

This is just a media payoff to keep the Tesla FUD flowing.

Electric Jesus could be annually producing ~2 million EVs by the end of 2022, assuming 500k per plant. Who can catch up? NIO?

My question is, was Joe really driving the Ford?

There is a picture floating around the web that makes it look like that truck has two steering wheels like a drivers ed car and that the secret service guy in the passenger is actually driving. I don't know if it is real or not. Honestly I don't care either way. Just doesn't seem like something to waste time on.

I just saw the photo today.  It's about as irrelevant as Obama's tan suit was.

Does anyone actually want to be seen driving the cyber truck?     If Ford pulls off a half decent version it will crush

Quotewhat are the chances Ford releases the $90k model first,

The articles I've seen say "starting at $53K". It may hit $90K equipped decently though..
but people buy $90K trucks all day long..
My wife's boss is driving a Dodge truck that came in at $110K and according to him it's not even loaded

What percentage of our country can afford a $55,000 truck?

I'd say a big percentage of the country is driving more car than they can afford
How many 20 something's do you know living in mom's basement cause all their money
is going to the lease payment on a BMW or a humungous 4 wheel drive pickup truck.

Ford CEO was bragging about 20,000 truck orders in 12 hours. Maybe it's true. Hope the software boys don't brick the trucks too. https://www.slashgear.com/bad-software-has-bricked-some-mustang-mach-e-evs-09667693/">https://www.slashgear.com/bad-software- ... -09667693/">https://www.slashgear.com/bad-software-has-bricked-some-mustang-mach-e-evs-09667693/

I knew several when I was a young adult.   It wasn't limited to vehicles.  Boats, tv's, motorcycles.   I've known people who were so far in debt I don't know that they'll ever be out.
