That same idiot likely wouldn't have a clue as to what size a #53 drill is...or a letter G or F or B or Z unless they have a fucking chart that was made in the early 1800's to tell them what size it is.
Same idiot will say my machine rapids at 3937 inches per minute instead of saying 100 meters per minute.

What drill charts do you have that don't have every size listed?

Imperial > metric.    :_thumbup:

They lied

Yup.
When I was in Vo-Tech taking Machine Shop in the late 70's we were told the same thing.

Still waiting...  :harhar:

Quote from: Newbeeee™ post_id=12346 time=1623530073 user_id=157But as the OP said when you're dealing with number and letter drills and fractions, it is utter bollocks.
Because you have to look up a table and convert.

Sheet metal is the worst. 10 gauge steel is different from 10 gauge aluminum is different from 10 gauge brass is different from 10 gauge stainless is different from 10 gauge copper. And none of those sizes are even close to wire sizes.

Fucking shoe sizes piss me off too. Size charts for men, women, boys, girls, infants, and soon we will have LGBTQ sizes.

I don't give an iota.

That's an extremely small amount in the USA.

Is that a metric iota?

If we hadn't half ass adopted the metric and mixed it with imperial, we'd be ok.  I deal with mm all the time, but I sure AF couldn't tell you how far I've traveled in KM or how many KG I weigh.
We're stuck w two fuckin systems of measurement for the next few lifetimes

I think the reason we as Americans will likely never fully adopt the metric system is the same reason English is the primary language and Fahrenheit is our measure of temperature.  We are taught in school from beginning to end the imperial units of measure, the English language, and the Fahrenheit temperature scale.  Thus, even those of us who have memorized many of the conversion factors, we always turn back to our original base.  If I think 1mm, I automatically think of it as ~.0394", 1 Kg = ~2.2Lbs.  The same if I learn a different language.  My mind always brings it back to the English Equivalent.  Give me a temp in Celsius, I automatically turn it into Fahrenheit, a measurement in Metric, back to Imperial, or a word in another language, back to English.  Until the Metric system is the primary measurement system taught from beginning to end in the school systems and not as a secondary system, Metric will never take hold here.  JM2C, YMMV

Oh, we'll adopt it alright.

Any day now the "Imperial" system will be deemed racist and then it'll have to go.

I seem to recall hearing that somewhere. I could be wrong though, I've been wrong once before.

We are a contract manufacturer that has many different customers and we build to both all the time.  I don't understand the hang up.
