You have to compare it to the practical alternative.

Oh, but doge is ok.  He's working with the devs to improve their efficiency.

The world is switching to Unicorn farts & Fairy dust based economies.
How the hell do 0s & 1s have any intrinsic value?

How is it any different than the federal reserve notes tucked in your wallet?

What is intrinsically valuable about a piece of paper with a dead president's face on it?

I didn't claim that it is.

The US Dollar is already "Unicorn farts & Fairy dust" it has been so ever since it decoupled from gold.

We take the "Full faith and credit" of the US Government at face value...it is a fiat currency with the only value that people believe it has...

I was just reading an article about Iran temporarily suspending people from bitcoin mining because of blackouts and power shortages.
I didn't realize it was that popular there, but apparently it is.

Well, the public ledger is, public.

What I wanna know is how the got the private key. That's what anyone who's ever invested a dime in crypto needs to know.

If they got it from a human source inside the hacker's organization or if they hacked a server where a sloppy hacker stored his private keys that really isn't a problem with the security of crypto itself. But if one of the various 3 lettered agencies have a way to hack the private keys or a built in backdoor, which we're told is utterly, completely, totally, unpossible, then that's a whole different ballgame.

i thought i read something about them taking over an exchange where they were being stores. Seems to be the most likely scenario.
downloading to a cold digital (USB) wallet, there wouldn't be a way.

from the sounds of it the people that got the ransom may not have been the perpetrators. If I was smarter, i might of offered my public key for the ;donation'

When Bitcoin explodes, ALL crypto explodes.

It's definitely cyclic, just like the stock market, except way more volatile.

Yes, the public ledger is public so that it can't be tampered with.
People who get their crypto hacked are victims of their own stupidity, period.
There are a few exceptions (Mt. Gox for example), but that is the general rule.

You need to keep your private keys PRIVATE, that's why they are called private keys. (DUH)
Storing them anywhere they can be accessed through the internet is just plain stupid, and is akin to leaving your keys in your car and hoping nobody steals it.

Stupid is as stupid does.
