+1
And also more importantly moduleworks.
Cus someone will make them an offer they can't refuse....and if it is AutoDicjs then that could be REALLY ugly for a whole lot of people....

whoever bought ModuleWorks would be obligated to abide by existing contracts with other CAM companies,
but once said contracts expired, they would be under no obligation to renew them ..

That would give the new owners of ModuleWorks the power to strip the 5X toolpaths out of 80%
of the world's CAM companies

Maybe not....though it could hinder further development...

My understanding "could" be wrong here but the way I understand it is CNC, purchased the toolpath suite and the right to use it...
So they would be able to continue using the paths "as is"....further development would then fall on them and not ModuleWorks..

How other companies handle it, I cannot say...

Quote"Mastercam will be the cornerstone in Sandvik's CAM portfolio, further improving machining productivity by combining our machining know-how with their CAM expertise to improve quality and reduce waste for our customers. Specifically, we will leverage data capture and use to secure efficient tool selection and tool path optimisation for our customers. I look forward to welcoming the CNC Software team to Sandvik," says Mathias Johansson, President of the Design & Planning Automation Division in Sandvik Manufacturing Solutions.

This tells you what they think about their Gibbscam and Cimatron Purchase with making the statement Mastercam will be their Cornerstone CAM.

With using the $60 million number for total revenue and following normal acquisition protocols and methods of offering 3X to 5X of annually revenues the Summers family was offered anywhere from $180 to $360 million for CNC Software. If the offer was 10X then they and future generations of the Summers Family is set for life. Either way they made out and time will tell the direction and way this will all go.

The ONLY truly useful technology in Gibbs is the HMC stuff. I really don't think anyone does it better. Cimmatron is the only real competition for PowerMill on the Mold and Die front. Gibbs and Mastercam share a lot of the MW toolpaths, and all of the 5-Axis MW stuff.

Perfect summary and agree on the HMC and Mold assessments for both products.

Indeed. time will tell the direction it ends up heading. The press releases and statements are all corporate talk, and I have lost count of the number of times one thing was said, and another was done. Both with Sandvik, and most certainly with the Summers and CNC Software.

If they make Mastercam as user friendly as the Sandvik website we are pretty much fucked.

Haha, good point.

Actually, in my opinion, Sandvik have never been strong in software. I worked for Coromant back in the mid nineties, and dabbled with their CAM products and support software back then. It was terrible. Fast forward to Adveon, Coroplus, and even their Prime Turning application... Those weren't any better.

Out of curiosity, who were let go at CNC Software in the cull before or at the announcement?

I just received the official notification from my reseller.
Rah, rah, rah...yada, yada, yada...

Time will tell whether this makes our lives easier or more difficult.
Either way, the customers are just on for the ride.
