A follow up on this morning's snafu
We switched to this https://www.ingersoll-imc.com/product/3026094#!ProductBulletins_LinkContent">Ingersoll High Feed Cutter
The cycle time is 1.25 hours now, about 10 minutes quicker than the Ø6 button cutter
Insert life is surprisingly good even though we are not running the correct grade of insert. (yet)
Oddly enough, according to HSMAdvisor, the required torque for the 2 tool paths is about the same but the machine is handling it without complaint.
I think it's rpm that makes the difference .
The Ø6 button cutter was running at 76RPM and the Ø4" high feed is running at 122 which must be a better spot on the spindle's torque band.

You get old and bitter and let people make their own bed after a while?
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

This trade can be extremely frustrating at times, but I don't regret a minute of it.
The work can be challenging and interesting.
It is very satisfying watching a robot land on Mars and being able to say I built a couple of parts for that robot.
and .....
I did not finish college as I was too busy being a dumbass, drinking, doping and chasing girls
yet after a ton of hard work and study, I can still make a 3  6 figure income despite my misspent youth.

actually, I mispoke.. I meant 6 figure income, as in north of $100K
I used to be well north, but AB5 and Biden's energy policies have been a very big hit this year
