'Tomb Hunters' on the Smithsonian Channel is a quite fascinating 4-part series.

Archaeologists recently uncovered a HUGE burial site in Saqqara, Egypt that contains the mummified remains of hundreds of people buried in two separate vast underground tunnel systems.  Some are perfectly preserved after being sealed in there for around 2500 years, giving researchers a trove of new data about ancient Egyptian culture that will take them YEARS to study and compile.

I have seen the first two episodes and am looking forward to seeing the other two shortly.

Well just wait five or so seconds, it'll be OK.

I'm watching Get Shorty, on Amazon. I know that it's been around for awhile but if you haven't watched it give it a try. It reminds me of Breaking Bad, comedy interspersed with violence.

Quote from: joshc post_id=6472 time=1612979503 user_id=87i just got on a friends disney plus and they have a ton of national geographic shows on there, so i have been watching alot of nat geo lately, those shows i think are pretty interesting, but the planet earth series on netflix i think is just a tad bit better than nat geo on disney+

David Attenborough has an amazing voice.(Planet Earth)
I keep the dvd in my player in the bedroom.

15 minutes of him talking.ZZZZZzzzzzzzZZZZZzzzzzzz
When it's over it plays the theme music all night.

Open Ocean is one of my Faves. Every time it starts you get a view of endless Water towards the Horizon.

Kinda puts shit in perspective.

We are just a speck.

I just watched that the other day. :D

They had a couple of those that actually scared the shit out of me.

One was Gavin McCloud and he kept watching spiders in his apartment and washing them down the sink.

I won't spoil the ending.

Also speaking of Gavin "Nightstalker" was a good show for saturday late Night.

Yeah I am just getting caught up on the most recent season (17).
COVID really put a strain on these guys who are out there just trying to make a very difficult living.

I think Alaska Fish & Game also makes it tough for them because they and they alone control the quotas, and whether certain fisheries are even open.
Having your livelihood in the hands of a bunch of political appointees can only cause stress and grief!

Those guys really do enjoy a close brotherhood, even though they are competitors.

btw...I wouldn't last 5 minutes on one of those crab boats!
I would be seasick before it even got out of the harbor.

Summer of 2019 (my last as Scoutmaster) we went to Camp on Catalina Island (Emerald Bay). There was some storms in the pacific than churned up the water a little in the Channel. I was listening to the surf report as this would determine if I eat breakfast before the trip or not. Report said 2-4' swells, so I figured I'd eat a LIGHT breakfast. We get outside the breakwater and the surf is already 4-6'. By the time we get 12 miles out, it's closer to 8-9' and I'm feeding fish... puking my guts out. That was around 9:00am. We get to camp about 10:000am. I grab my stuff, still feeling like crap. I was supposed to take my swim test right away. Yeah, not happening. Camp Director is in my tent telling me I gotta do it. I think I showed him he was #1. I went to sleep. Got up at 12:30, felt better but still not 100%. Anyway, went down to the water and passed my swim test. We gotta swim 100 yards. 75 yards whatever stroke(s) you want, then 25 yards back stroke, then you have to float for a minute. Thankfully there's no time limit. I'm usually done quick. Not this time. I was the last person they allowed that day to do the swim test. It took what felt like forever. I'd never last on the Bering Sea more than about 5min.

Man... these guys WORKING in 40-50' seas wind blowing (not gusting) 60MPH... those guys EARN that paycheck no doubt. I could never do that job. I don't think I'd last 1 string today. Maybe in my 20's I could last for A string... maybe. Definitely not two and certainly not a full season though... and I wouldn't last 5 minutes on Keith's boat. They'd have me walking the plank. That guy... getting in people's faces like that. Nope. I will deal with a lot, but not that.

Oh definitely.
Those have to be among thee most brutal working conditions anywhere on the planet.
Not to mention in the winter season you may need to go out on deck and smash ice off of everything with a sledgehammer for an hour or two BEFORE your 18-20 hour shift of fishing even starts, otherwise the boat could roll over and sink.

Yeah Keith is a prick to work for.
He even treats his own brother like shit most of the time.
I could NEVER work for a guy like him either.

That's probably why the Wizard is about the best paying boat in the fleet.
They always have among the highest quota to catch, AND you gotta put up with that guy in the wheelhouse every trip.
Most of the other boats seem to pay around $15-$20K per deckhand depending on what they are fishing, where the Wizard sometimes pays out $35-$40K per man.
Still not worth it IMO just for the fact that you gotta put up with Keith's bullshit every day.

I watched Clint Eastwood's "Cry Macho". I am a big Clint Eastwood fan, but this movie was a real a stinker. The acting was bad the plot was contrived, it was just bad all around. Sorry Clint, at 91 I think it is time to hang up your spurs.

I've been watching "The Nevers" and "See".
Last night on Deadliest Catch, a young guy who had been on the show and was on another boat was killed when he was crushed by a pot.

I've been watching 9/11:One day in America on Hulu. Incredible stories and videos most have never seen from that day.
