Speaking of Smitty where are you Smit? Have you had a chance to scuba dive since the pandemic? Inquiring minds want to know.

I had a wood shop teacher in High School during the mid 70's and everyone called him Smitty. My favorite class and I learned alot. Defiantly part of what has formed me today (50 years later). I am sad that the current generation cannot experience that.

The current generation is afraid of danger. Back in the 70's we had wood lathes, table saws, all kinds of dangerous tools. And sometimes students got hurt (a great learning moment). I still remember the big spot of blood on the floor next to the drill press. Long hair (popular in the 70's) and a drill press spindle don't mix.

As an official member of the old guys category, I miss those days.

Smit where the hell are you? I miss your counterpoint.

There once was a forum member named Smitty.

Whose Presidential picks were way beyond Shitty.

He went for a Dive.

And a Shark soon arrived.

Now all that's left is a Bitty of Smitty.

He's be'in sneaky.

I hope he is well also.

I remember Cryler once said to me, with friends like these, who needs enemies.

Yea He had a great sense of Humor.

Everytime I see a million illegals being shipped in I think of him fighting soo hard for soo long.

It pisses me off.

Just talked about this one the other day. Guy at work has a tee shirt that says "I am the man from Nantucket". Son wore it to school. His wife got a call saying bring your son another shirt or bring him home.
🤣🤣🤣🤣

I went for a 2 week diving vacation last July and I'll be going again on February 26th for 10 days. Both to Cozumel, Mexico. I don't get out as often now so I'm making the trips a little longer. The economy is mostly tourist driven in Cozumel so Covid has hit them hard. They are mostly very happy to see the respectful tourists come back.

I left a little blood on the floor of our wood shop when I was in Junior high school. I had turned the barrel of a duck call I was making on a lathe and I took the round part over to the band saw to cut off the excess wood I was clamping on. I learned that day that when a blade catches on a round part you're holding in your hand it will spin, possibly causing your finger to plunge into the blade. It wasn't too bad but I got a few stitches and still have the scar.

Considering what is happening in the work force today it seems it would be wise to bring back some of the trade oriented classes to help kids develop some skills that might make it easier to learn a skilled trade. If not in Junior high (or middle school I guess they call it now) then certainly in high school. Lots of kids who don't want to go to universities could benefit from it. It is sad the kids don't get to experience that, and sad the administrators don't recognize it.

As far as counterpoints go, well, that's not a good idea. Only a handful of people here are interested in hearing a counterpoint and/or having a civil, rational conversation, and they're drowned out by the masses who are not. I'll pretty much stick to reading the TV show thread and if there's a bourbon/booze thread I like those too.

i enjoy discussing politics with you. I've never learned a thing from the people I agree with. as iron sharpens iron so one man sharpens another.
