We have the opportunity to spec out a high-end workstation for programming.

If you could design your own workstation and had a budget of $10,000 - $15000 what would you get? Our current computers are HP Z4 with a Xeon processor and a Quadro 4000, 16 gig of ram, I believe. It's okay but we're on a push for capital equipment. We may not get this opportunity again. I'm not tech savvy  enough to know.

I have a laptop with windows "95".

As Long as it's plugged in I won't lose the Battery.

My Computer at home is a Dell Home Shopping network "Deal of the Day"

That's an awesome budget, given that most things in the 4-5k range are more than credible.

High end you say?
Well you need more budget. The best Quadro card is almost $14k right now.

I'm also still a believer that clock speed is king when it comes to Mastercam so that rules out any Xeon cpu unless they have faster ones than they used to.
Then you want at least 64gb of FAST ram. not just RAM. And make sure it's sped up in the BIOS.
As for storage = M.2 ssd's.
That's all ya need to be fast.

Love those guys. I've bought at least a dozen PCs and a few laptops from them.

All the PCs we have came overclocked w/water cooling. They have all been under $7K. Probably average around $5K.

High end Nvidia cards are in short supply so be prepared to wait.

I ordered a PC with a Quadro RTX A4000 from Xi on 02/21/22
We took the 2% discount for paying up front
The PC shipped 02/24/22.
It was scheduled for delivery 02/25/22 but UPS dropped the ball
The rescheduled delivery date is today.

Boxx burnt their bridges with this one.
I ordered an i9-11900KF PC a couple of months ago
They demanded cash up front because we had paid 10 days late on a PC last year.
We got that straightened out, but our purchasing department was seeing red over it.
We waited 5 weeks for the PC.
It arrived and performed as expected, so well in fact, the bosses told me to order another just like it.

I emailed Boxx for a quote and they replied that they were no longer selling i9-11900KF PC's
and were now selling the new i9-12900k processors.
That was an additional $1625 but just for me there was a $600 discount.
I was too embarrassed to take that quote to the boss.

I called Xi, got the a copy of the first i9-11900KF for $500 less than Boxx with a 1 week delivery.
They said they'd been happy to sell us the -i9-12900K for an additional $20 (yes twenty dollars)  but explained why it was not a good choice for a CAD/CAM machine.
I was really disappointed in Boxx. I've been doing business with them for over a decade and never
had to deal with crap like this before.
I had the same sales rep for most of that 10 years but have gotten a new rep every time I called
recently.. Maybe they are not doing well?? Don't know, don't care..I don't deal with people who play games like that
