WASHINGTON—Empty streets and a subdued atmosphere characterized Washington on Jan. 7 as Trump supporters processed the events of the previous day and the certification of the Electoral College votes by Congress overnight.

Many were packing up to go home, at the same time a fence was being erected around the Capitol; the National Guard presence was obvious.

Marine veteran Tony Good traveled from Florida and walked to the Ellipse to hear President Donald Trump speak in the morning. He said Trump didn't incite violence in his speech.

"No, absolutely not. There's a line between inciting to riot and standing on convictions," Good told The Epoch Times. "He wasn't telling anybody to riot, he was just telling them it's our right to protest. That's a right we have in America."

Good became separated from his group and returned to his hotel to regroup after the speech. He didn't go to the Capitol, but said he wishes he had.

"I call yesterday the first day in the 10-year war," he said. "It's going to be 10 years before this gets turned around. It's going to take that long. War in the sense of ... getting things to where they should be in America, as far as fair and free elections, election integrity.

"It's not going to happen overnight, because the powers that be don't want it to be. They want to rule. They want to be the ruling class."

If you didn't express disdain for so many of my comments, I might take this more seriously, but I have watched you nitpick me across the forum and on emastercam as well no matter what I say.

But I think you missed my point here (the hypocritical sympathy for her from the Right while there was a complete lack of sympathy for those doing the EXACT same thing earlier in the summer only because the 'mostly peaceful protesters back then happened to be from the Left). Even though I support the stand your ground and king of your castle laws, I'm not a radical, chest thumping, 2-A baby person like many of my friends, family and acquaintances are and like a few of the men on this forum are as well. And so AS I SAID it's always sad when someone dies, and yet she was a trespasser with a VIOLENT mob and those caught inside had no idea whether their lives were in danger or not...I believe many of us here would defend our families without hesitation if such a mob approached our houses, and yet the portrayal of her as a tragic figure when she was part of this violent mob that held hostage all our House and Senate leaders is a little stretch.

So...I'm sorry if I didn't express that better, but you've made your opinion of me pretty clear elsewhere and this was simply one more chance for you to express your disdain for me here. I am truly sorry for whatever it is that I have done to cause this disdain.

The short-sighted protesters stormed the Capitol without stealing a bunch of stuff, prompting many to question whether they really understand the purpose of a peaceful protest at all.

"Look at these morons, rioting at the Capitol when there's a perfectly good Target just down the street," said one CNN reporter. "If they'd looted a bunch of local businesses in the name of social justice or whatever, we'd be covering this protest a heck of a lot differently, I'll tell you that."

The rioters were condemned by people on both sides of the aisle, with critics slamming them for disrupting congressional proceedings, breaking through police barricades, and not even stealing a single Lego set, cheesecake, or Nike shoe in the name of justice. No footage emerged of the Capitol occupiers lighting cop cars on fire or throwing bricks through restaurant windows, causing the protesters to lose support from people of all political persuasions.

"One thing is clear," said one political analyst. "These people obviously don't know the sweet, sweet justice of lugging a 60-inch TV back to your apartment to show how much you care about your cause."
